    Merc 60hp mids - 1989 engine on a 2002 15" (jet) mid

Trying to convert a late 80's 60hp to a 15". The 15" mids were available on the 1990+ jets, but they appear different (on the outside), and the powerheads were 3 carb (vs. 2 carb on the 80's engines).
-- Anybody know if a 1989 powerhead will bolt to the late midsection? And the stock foot vs the jet?

The 1989 has the integral trim and looks very tricky to cut down.
My mid 70's 65hp mid would be easier to cut to 15", but the old style trim system is heavier. I gues I could use a a transom ram and save weight.

It appears the 15" jet mids only had "tilt assist", but from photos it appears the 1989 clamp and trim assy could work on it. (?)

I had heard that the more common 15" mids from a mid 70's would work...but have also heard that they will crack, so I abandoned that route.

Won't fit. Not even close to the same bolt pattern.

I figured as much. I guess my options are - keep looking for an XS or 650 short mid, spend the bucks on the cool 650X 12" mid (and make a gearcase adapter), or chop the existing 650 long shaft.

Just build the transom up. Much easier. Or use a small manual jack plate.
