New Yammi 4-strokes as light as DFI
Gotta pick up the latest Trailer Boats magazine and see the article about the Yamaha 200-300 hp 4-stroke motors. 4.2 Liter V6, and supposedly the same weight as the ETEC and OPTI motors of same HP. Amazing.
Also mentions the new Suzi 60 hp 4-stroke outboard that's 130 lbs lighter than the current motor it replaces. Weighs in at 224 lbs now. That's the weight of the Merc 40 horse 4 cylinder 2-stroke I had on my Crestliner basser years ago.
The 4-strokes finally caught the 2-stroke DFI motors?

Hey JW, Whats cool is Yamaha just released a F70, I believe its at 270+lbs, for instance Evinrude/Mercs 75 Opti or Etec is about 100lbs heavier!!!! Fortunately for BRP/Evinrude their etec 60 is 243lbs, twin cylinder and most that have owned 1 realize, it really is putting out just under 70hp, its supposedly about 68hp at the prop, so that motor is still in the fight.... I think this is a great time for a buyer, One of Merc Racings guys were in my store yesterday, he agrees that Yamaha is going to change what others do with their motors, it makes YOU the consumer get a better well thought out motor. While I would never consider a jap mota, this is good news for the industry and, hopefully, guys like us.

A new 225 v max sho yami is 15,400 at ed's marine. Not too bad. 300 offshore sho probably 17,500

I like how they're using the SHO name for these outboards, like the original Yamaha massaged V6 Ford Taurus SHO. VERY nice car for it's day.

In fact JW the F200-F250 Yammie 4 stroke that we've all been used to is actually the OLD Original Yamaha/Ford Taurus SHO Motor, just marinized and etc...Pretty cool actually, Yamaha also built the motor in my 8200rpm 1.8liter 180hp Toyota Celica GTS 4cylinder, on the back of the Head it clearly says, YAMAHA...They know what they are doing for sure. My Neighbor is a pro Redfishing guide, and He gets supplied a new rig w/Yamaha 4-stroke power every year so He keeps Me updated... A few weeks ago He mentioned something about this new lighter 4 stroker and it's perfromance... I've known for quite awhile that the 4-strokes were only gonna lay dormant for so long before they'll begin an inevitable strong run for the #1 spot... Wait till they start turbo'ing these things, and the performance that We're used to will become archaic in a couple seasons..

I can't wait to see a side-by-side comparo on the back of a Bullet or on a good dyno. So far, the dyno graphs I've seen of 4-strokes have matched the top end horsepower, but been weaker in the mid rpm range. With 4.2 liters, they might be able to run with the 3 liter 2-strokes all the way thru the rpm range. This is going to get REAL interesting, if the pricing is equivalent.

From what I've heard, low and mid the SHO stomps a 2 stroke. Top end is basically the same. I guess you can only make so much HP and legally still call it a 250 or whatever.

4 strokes usually are turds out the hole as compared, but weight plays a large part in it. I hope the engine lives up to its hype, maybe it will make everyone else have to keep up.

My bass boat company Bass Cats head guy, whos been runnin black forever just ordered his 250 SHO on the back of his 20 footer, he said its a STUNNER?????

I can't wait to hear some real world consumer feedback on these motors. it's nice to hear from dealers/boat reps/test rides/etc but it will be even nicer to hear from consumers that have previously ran optis/etecs/hpdis and get the "real" scoop on how these motors perform.

I think there was mention in the article of doing away with the current V8 in a few years
