The E-flite Blade mSR is going to get a lot more people into the RC helis. It's very forgiving, almost behaves like a coaxial, but give it some stick input, and WATCH OUT!

God this brushless conversion im reading about is so tempting!
i have also read about an upgraded tail motor but haven't seen one?
Put the new tail motor on mine and i glued it so it wouldnt pop the cap off the back with the first crash, I also pulled the shaft through the prop till the prop was almost touching the motor (about 1/8-1/4in of the shaft sticking out of the tail rotor) so it couldnt push through the back of the motor. Seemed to work till it was crashed good a 20 times now the shaft poked through the back of the motor instead of the cap popping off... I thought i herd someone flying it, walked up stairs and my girl is on the computer smiling
needless to say its back in the box and the batteries are elsewhere! Bulletproof tail motor mod in the works!Last edited by baja200merk; 12-31-2009 at 09:00 PM.

I wasn't aware of any brushless conversion available for the mSR. I thought that stuff was too heavy for this one ounce bird? Why re-invent the wheel? The stock motor is already more than enough.
I ran a bead of CA around the butt cap of the tail motor on mine as a preventative measure. No tail motor issues yet here.
I DID manage to break the stock set of blade grips as most mSR pilots have done.
I was ready for it though, as I visited the hobby shop earlier today, and thus had a spare set of grips on hand. I also cracked the landing gear near the front pin-- This is also a common injury. I built up some CA around the repair until I can get a new set of GLOW landing gear.
Kevin, keep an eye on the little sleeve (below the grips) with the "goalpost" link guides. The posts can bend and make the links bind up between them.
I may try to grind out a pocket on the base of the trailing edge of the blades to allow them to swing back farther into the grips during a blade strike. I read somewhere that this mod worked well. My factory blades are showing some wear (I have spares) so I might experiment on them tomorrow.
This is serious fun.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

If you can get them to flip around all the way, do it. Haven't looked at that yet. That is the way my larger helis are.
I've been flying mine outside. Haven't perfected a hammer head yet, but I'm working on it.
I got the hots for one of these right now. Doing research on the electronics. The new JR micro gyro looks killer. And should be right at home on this:
Check out the head! And the tail!

Wow, that looks pretty bad ass. Appears to run $440 with no radio, due out April.
I guess that's the answer to all the forum posts of people wanting to own a palm-sized micro with the CP capability of their bigger machines.
I ordered an aluminum grip head for my mSR today. Some say it makes the toilet bowl effect worse, but I've also heard the same about flying with excessive play in the flybar pivot point. Maybe one brings out the worst in the other? We'll see...'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Main rotor diameter is about 18". You can get a std kit for as low as 160 scratch and dent, but it is not the SE. SE has all the alloy hardware and the kit is 230, less radio gear. I have a RX, I just need servos and the gyro.

Kevin, make sure to put a bead of Teflon lube between the mast and the flybar eyelet. This will reduce wear.
The rest of the "ovalling" comes from hyperextension during crashes.
I'm crashing way too much flying mine in the house, but the wind won't stop blowing and I'm afraid the freezing temps will make everything more brittle.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

These have quite a steep learning curve. Start with something easy and forgiving, that doesn't break every time you crash. The MICRO helis like The E-Flite Blade mCX (co-axial rotors) and the Blade mSR (single rotor with tail rotor) are going to be the easiest to fly because they are stable and will allow you to learn how to control it while having some fun.
You'd be crazy to get into a full-size heli, much less a gas-burner...'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

"I agree with Chad, you need to start on something very small and easy to fly, definitely electric."
OK where do the gas motors cut in???
I would love to chase the pet deer out of the yard with one of those gas birds!INXS
