Have any of you guys had a close-up look at one of these yet?
http://www.helipal.com/walkera-hm-4g...d-edition.html
It looks like we're chasing the Chinese when it comes to custom manufacturing and engineering on these things. The Blade helis are American-designed and Chinese built. The Walkera helis are 100% designed, built, and distributed by the Chinese. Check out all the EngRish grammar errors in the product description.
That 4G6 looks like a hoot! Maybe someday once I get the hang of the others...'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Chad, that looks really cool. I've actually been flying my MCX a lot and I'm getting pretty good at the controls now - well, good enough that I can get the bird to go where I want it, albeit at a moderate pace at best. Lots of fun though, extremely addicting and a healthy challenge.

Yeah, some of the technology that is coming out on the RC heli's is insane!
How are you guys doing on the nose-in hovering? That still throws me for a loop sometimesIan
...boatless for now.

I still occasionally get lost, adding a tough of left collective when I meant to 'yaw' left (oops!) The stick inputs for corrections and simple maneuvers like directional take-offs are becoming more like second nature as I practice. When I stop making stupid tail-in mistakes, THEN I'll try it the other way.

I really don't like what I see. I see some frame problems. Plus the gear and the frame are one and the same. It doesn't look very rigid either.
Chad, if you are serious about flying a CP heli, get a simulator for your computer. I can promise you it will pay for it self in parts alone!

I don't know about better as the flybar is set so it has positive stablity instead of negative like a CP. Plus you can practice nose in, inverted, etc. You crash, just press the red button.

I've been flying my Falcon 40 while the mSR 5-in1 board is in for service. Much like the mSR, it has some tail lag because it has a tail motor, thus gyro function is a bit inconsistent. The tail drifts at seemingly random moments and I need to constantly adjust it to maintain a heading. I can imagine how nice a good CP heli would handle simple hovering maneuvers with less effort. If the F40 gets turned around when I'm not ready, it really screws me up.
I've destroyed one set of blades ('sliding' landings into solid objects, off the throttle), cracked the canopy, and broken one landing gear foot so far, but everything's working fine.
After flying this bigger machine a bit, I think I'll be a little better prepared when I get the mSR back together-- more flying and less crashing this time.
Please elaborate. I noticed the mSR's 45 degree flybar instead of 90 degree, and how the collective servos, flybar, and main rotor interact differently. It looks as if the main rotor plays more of an active control role with this configuration.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Just so you know, because of you guys I've been slacking off trying to fly this thing. I'm getting good though - so much so that I've been surprising myself. It's really addicting.

Chad, it has to do with the gyroscopic effect. I was reading they have a new special gyro (really three in one) slash RX where you can remove the fly bar completely off my 500.
No slacking Greg. I ran a couple bats through mine yesterday. Let the wind lay and get me a vid cam operator and I'll get some vid of it outside. Amazing how fast the little thing is!!! It is really cool to watch it to bank around a turn!!!
Also made an electronics list for my new bird, a T-Rex 250 SE. Going with Hitech digital metal geared servos for the cyclic, and JR gyro and tail rotor servo. I'll post some pics when I get it.

I've been looking at those too.
Out of my price range for the time being.
today, I tried something on my Falcon 40:
I turned the flybar paddles about 10 degrees to "pitch" them in the same direction as the rotor blades, and now this quirky bird damn near hovers in place with NO stick input. Seriously. It handles effortlessly like this.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Can you set the blade tracking on that bird? My CX2 I could. It would fly stupid until you got them in track. The CPs with the higher head speeds (2400+rpm for my 500) it will vibrate like hell if it’s out. One blade is biting more air than the other. Like truing a boat prop. Only difference is you use line of sight for the helis.
Well I have the radio already so that makes a difference. You'd like the programmable radios. They are the shizznit!
Get a simulator Chad. If you are serious about it, you will be money ahead! Mine is about worn out, but still fun to practice with. Been practicing nose in hover, then invert, roll back climb out into a loop and come back in nose in. You can play all you want, crash all you want. Reset and your good to go!

I have an earlier version of this, but it seems they have kind of turned it into a video game.

Can't set anything on this bird, besides servo trim and the flybar paddles. The paddles came "flat", and that's how they look on most photos.
Before I angled the paddles, it was tough to keep it hovering in one place, and once it began to slide in one direction, it would drift away faster and faster until it crashed or corrective input was added. Now, once it's under good control, it acts exactly like the mSR, slowly "hunting" around in place with very little drift. Now I can work on hovering turned sideways and nose-in without fighting it...'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Family portrait-- The little green one is a 4-channel Ebay "toy", the cyclic function is all-or-nothing:
Here's how I have the flybar paddles set right now on the Falcon 40:
Is there any reason I shouldn't fly it this way?
