Arrow * 1949 Evinrude Boat Show Booth - Awesome Photo! *

Here's a photo from a 1949 boat show that shows Evinrude's booth. Look at all of the details in this photo - there's just so much to see. This photo was hosted on Liquid Nirvana's Evinrude history page and I thought I would share it here.

Seeing the water skis against the wall, What would be the largest horsepower on an outboard in that year?

    I think about 20 - 25.
The motor in the front left is either an opposed 2 or 4 cyl and I think 22HP's. Don't let the looks fool you either as the race versions hauled ass and are still raced today
I ran a race one time w/a then (mid 80's) current technoligy 22 cu in Yamato w/a sliding chamber on gas on a very fast boat in a class that they let those antiques run. They ran Methanol (no pipes) but on boats probably 2' longer than mine and who knows how much heavier and I had to drive my ass off to get around them Wouldn't have believed it w/o seeing it!

Had a '53 25HP on a 14' glass boat and I could deep water start on a slalom behind it. It was a tractor!

Chrysler had an ad yrs back w/a skier behind a tin boat w/a 6 on it

I actually had 50 written and then edited it out "thinking I rememberd those motors were 22 HP's. Might have been the opposed 2's.

They were available in 1949. Here is the brochure to prove it.
