Cougar Boats
I just heard that Cougar Boats has bought the Magic / Sleekcraft operation in Lake Havasu, and will begin construction there. Now a Cougar hull on a deck boat! That should make for a ride!

99% of there buisness was in the states and at the time our dollar was LOW like 30/40+ cents on the dollar. Most of the hardwear came from the states also like dana. Then they would have shipping and all the costs asotiated with over the boarder and were not making very much of each hull. They decided it was best to move operations to the USA. Thats when they decided to sell the company to the presant owners. They have put new blood into the hulls and have way sweet graphics over the Sicomouse Plant. Now with the XS motors the packages are sick!! The 22ft MTR with a 300XS is as wicked a tunnel as any in the market. Check out the 22,s graphics!! I think lots of folks thought the same as you did. There web site shows a sample of what they do. Nice graphics and lines.Very well built.

The original founder, owner of Cougar. Tom Reynolds was an amazing guy, designed some real nice boats. He was a perfectionist, only used the best materials and parts. Know him well, toured the factory many times, all were always wecome. Every year starting in 87 they had a reunion in Salmon Arm BC, poker runs, slalom races, tomato toss, kids events, big beef BBQ, pancake breakfast, etc. Saw many different boats, normaly around 40 boats the last 5 years. Some come up from the US some from Canada. Tom said the new owners wanted to continue they way things were always done. Haven't seen a US produced boat but have heard they seemed to be very well built, and great customer service. If this is true a person couldn't go wrong to buy one. JMO

My boat is far from finished, will see if I can find some old pics. Should have a few of different 19's from old Cougar Reunions.

To my knowledge, Mike Craig is still the current owner of the Cougar molds (the guy that sued me over the 23MTR molds). Don't get too excited guys, I doubt you'll ever see another one built - he's already had all the molds for over 2 years and done nothing with them.

I would go powder coat way more durable especially for the motor bracket. I found anodized parts are best for interiors and don't do well if in the water lots. JMO
