Expansion chamber is clearly superior to stock tuning. Instead of powerpack and coils on the starboard side of the motor, plug wires are coming directly from the stator.

No. All earlier 3 cyl. OMCs had inferior porting, at the very least.
    That's a 1975 or later 70 or 75 block. A difference between the two
is chamfering of the exhaust ports on the 75. The thinnest, lightest pistons
were in the 1974 70. I have three, in my stock of about 35 pistons
for the 75. Never tried them, was always too afraid of metal failure.

Thanks. Since you like my posts I'll add that I've known Paul since our NOA days
1958-60. You should have seen the Scott 40 run on one of the first wooden Allisons.
We bought them the next year and ran Mercurys (faster, but the Scott was impressive).

When I was a kid on Norris Lake (Tenn.) fisherman used to say 'Mah Evenrude won't far'. So we followed suit. SST-45 rig, boat by Darrell Beaulier, motor and props by Joe McCauley
(Houston, Tx.). Here in Tx. we go for 'Evenrude!'.

No. The 1973 block is the same as the 1974 70. The heads and pistons differ from 1973 to 1974. The 1973-4 block can be converted to 75 hp by chanfering the exhaust ports.
