Water temperature guage
I have a new-in-the-box Mercury/Mariner temperature gauge kit. In the parts and instructions it provides and shows a single brass temperature sending piece to be installed on the head but, my engine already has a a wire that runs to each head to read engine temperature? Does anyone know the solution (hook-up) wiring procedure for a temperature gauge to my engine? My engine is a 1989 (200hp) V-6 Mariner Outboard.....any help would be most appreciated..

Leave the temp wires where they are. The sender with the gauge uses a mount that goes under a water jacket bolt.age is to be installed against the block. The senders in the block are for overheat warning.
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

My V6 has a sender in each head. One if for the overheat alarm, and the other is for a temperature gauge, and is wired all the way to the dashboard even though there isn't a temp gauge installed.
To fish or not to fish? What a STUPID question.

Temp gauge wiring for my 1989 200 Mariner V-6
So if the wire from the motor goes all the way to the dash which wire out of my harness hooks-up to the temp gauge? What other wires would also need to go to the temp gauge?

There should be a diagram with the gauge. If not, there's one in the maintainance manual.
