Help! Verado or E-tech?
I have a 24' RIB with a 2000 johnson non ficht 150. The gear case is shot. I am probably going for a new outboard. I am an I/O guy so I need help!
What are the pro's and cons what gauges controls do I have to buy?
The E-tech is lighter seems less complex but cost more
(can I use my current 2000 controls and gauges?)
The Verado heavier about seems complex cost about 20% less
What controls and gauges are best?
I race offshore and have some guys helping me on pricing both engines are below $10K new with 5 year warranty.
The boat has cable steering I will either go hydraulic or power steering with the Verado.
Please give any and all advise the GF uses the boat to take the dog out to the Islands I need bullet proof!
This is 45 MPH boat
Thanks in advance!

It surprises me that the etec costs more than a 4 stroke ????
Personally I would go with the Verado - No extra oil to purchase, Quieter, Huge mid range torque, digital instruments as standard (with fuel flow)
go with the hydraulic steer option - dont need the heavy duty powersteer for the smaller engine.

I think your best bet is to actually demo both engines and see what you like. An engine that size is a major investment, so you'll want to test drive them both . Myself, I'm partial to the performance of the Verado over the E-Tec, but they are both great engines.

no way is
The verado quiet'er,maybe slightly at w.o.t.,and it's 650pds. vrs.500,u also have 2 change oil n oil filter,timing belts,just like a car u blow a timing belt u take out valve traing,timing belts stretch,less rpm.,n also brp's got the besty warrenty in the buiss.it's a no-brainer buddy.

any reason not to also consider the merc optimax xs series (250 or 300)? lighter than the verado, best fuel efficiency, faster and all the hp you will need.

you sure on the price difference? Besides you have to use all of the verado controls, the E-tec will let you use your current controls. I am a Evinrude guy, but I am betting that the verado will probably suit you best. Just get all the costs upfront. Greg is right, try and test run them boat.

The Verado power to weight isn't brilliant until you get up to 300 or 350hp. 300hp or less a 2 stroke wins.
I would look at the ETEC or the Merc 300xs. I also have a RIB and they get used in very rough water - the lighter the engine the better. Also the Verado is just too complicated.

merc is faster and more fuel efficient according to head to head tests at bwb magazine (at least the ones BRP did not chicken out of), and looking at the last couple years at rouen, more reliable, uuh, and faster at least according to the podium and the next several places in line. does brp have a case that will hold together yet? why are so many guys running whit motors trying to adapt sportys to their motors again? then again, we all know you are brp's favorite cheerleader.
