    re-jetting carbs

I am on the hunt for parts to upgrade my 150. It was suggested that I use a set of 1 & 5/16 carbs. However I have found a nice set of 1 & 3/8 carbs for a good price.
Can I jet down these carbs to match the output of the 1 & 5/16 carbs? Or should I keep looking for the 1 & 5/16. Are jets factory items only?
I ordered the new reeds today and will install them by the weekend along with the intake stuffers! Also found a pair of louvers for the cowl, will be working on that too.
THANKS for all the help, suggestions, etc!!!

I'd keep looking for a set of 1 5/16". You may not be completely happy with the 1 3/8" carbs. These flow a lot of fuel/air and originally were used on the high port 235's then later, exclusively on the high port-big bore crossflows only-designed to make max hp at high rpm. They may flow too much air for a small bore, low port engine. Your low-port engine runs out of breathing capability over 5700-5800. The larger carbs would work better if your powerhead was ported. You will need to spend time rejetting any 1 3/8 carb: if you get them to work, you will find a big compromise on holeshot. The 1 5/16" are a better carb for your powerhead. If you find a set from a 150 XP/GT they should bolt right up without further rejetting.

It may be to your advantage to only change one thing at a time. Some mods may show great performance gains and other mods may not work out as well. The only way to know for sure what mods worked on your set up and and what did not help would be to do one at a time, than test before you do another.Take notes with before and after runs. When ever I have changed a couple things around at the same time I always wonder what helped the most and what may have been a waste of time. Joe R

If they are the later models that are mostly plastic, pass on those. If they are 84, 85, those are the best years. Buy them and put them on a shelf until you port the motor. Otherwise, get the 1 5/16.

Some of the 200s came with 1 3/8" carbs BUT they were ported to 200 specs. The bigger carbs won't run good on a stock ported motor.

I think I have a set of the 1 5/16 carbs. I will look in my shop tomorrow and let you know. They have pastic float bowls I know that for sure. Best I remember one of the bowls was warped a little but might be OK with the thick rubber gaskets.

I just pulled a set of carbs and intake that I would like to get rid of. Part number 393781 that show to be from 84-85 235. Also have the 235 heads. I don't have the tools here to measure the carbs accurately. Can send pics on thursday. Have the intake, carbs, reeds, airbox, complete intake. No idea on value. Maybe someone can help if these are what you want.

    Lokinutz,
    I am looking for heads -part #323872 & 323873.
The carbs- look on the front, right lower corner of the carb. It will have the size (1 3/8, 1 5/16) stamped there.
Let me know what you have

Maybe this will help ya Arch.

    150s had 1" carbs
    150 XPs and GTs had 1 5/16"
    175 had 1 5/16"
    Early 200s had 1 5/16" and some late had 1 3/8"
All 235 and 2.6 XPs and GTs had 1 3/8"

This is for 85 and earlier Xflows.

Heads are 328326/328327, which also show on BRP site as 235 heads.
I believe the carbs to be 1 3/8 as Forkin' stated. Can measure tomorrow when I get off shift.
Carbs will come complete reeds to airbox with fuel lines and primer valve.
