Exclamation Oil question (not another oil question)

So what oil do you uses in your Optimax motors?

I was reading through the manuals on my new (not yet rigged )
250xs and it stated for oil to use Premium Plus TC-W3:

Then why do they also make Opti/DFI oil?

    What is it used for

I am also working on getting a boat with a 150 Opti, what oil is recommended for it.

    Thanks

My 300 xs manual also states Premium Plus TC-W3. I was told by a person at Mercury Racing that's what they run during intial runin time a few years ago
aka "Euroski" using "Lost in Space " from work

    an oil thread, git him!

    J/K.

I think all the "Merc Racing" Optis recommend the premium plus, and the regular optis take the opti oil. Wildman would probably have the most experience feeding those things, maybe he'll see this and chime in.

Mercury recomends the Opti oil for all consumer Optis. All XS Optis are to use the Premium Plus oil. From my understanding, the XS motors were tested and designed for the Premium Plus. You can also run Premium Plus in a consumer Opti, but it is recomended to decarbon the engine once per year.

Also remember, that all Optis, Mercury is recomending the use of QuickLeen in each tank of fuel to prevent carbon build up, and the use of a stabalizer to prevent issues with the ethonal.

    Thanks for the replys guys,

    QuickLeen in each tank
    That seems like alot

So the next interesting question is if they recommend a synthetic blend, is it ever a good idea to use a full synthetic?

And what is the BRP xd100?

I was really hoping to reduce they number of types of oils that I stock

Quickleen mixes at something like at an ounce per 5 gallons or something like that. It really isn't as bad as it seems, I have to run BRP 2+4 in my rig for the Etec and it boils down to an extra $4 per fillup....

BRP XD100 is the fully synthetic oil made for Evinrude motors. It is the best that BRP makes and all that I run in my Etec.

You can run Premium Plus in both motors (your 250XS and your consumer 150 Opti). Just run the QuickLeen and you'll be fine.

Yep....I've run them all....and blown them all up lol!

I ran the Premium Plus in all of my Optis, although I don't think I had any of them long enough to have to put more than one gallon in them lol!

The new premium plus is different than the older green color premium plus. I too have a 300xs and have asked that question to my dealer... could not get a straight answer. The newer premium plus looks darker.. Looks like a mix of old premium plus and opti oil. Hence "synthetic blend". I run the plus only cause the manual says so.
