Maybe Merc can get a little close to 176 mph. How long has this record stood now?

no doubt, with a record like that no wonder they have not felt the need to win anything else over the past 3 decades.

would love to see a 350etec tho, especially with a 15 inch mid and some sort of surfacing lower unit. that would be badazzzz for sure.

Nope. World record in a Kilo still stands. I heard the OMC was VERY fast at the Champ boat race in Texas. Having a hard time keeping a gearcase together to handle the power, but heard they were running some very fast laps.

Started something like 4th on the dock. Blistered the prop on the start. Past the Seabold entry before the 1st lap was over. And ran away with 1st in race #1

Race#2 they ran to finish. Seabold windowed his block. Before they either threw a blade or blew the prop shaft out of the lower unit. Theres a good short clip of the start of the first race out there somewhere.

Mercury has had the same opportunity to build a v8 so making excuses doesn't set records. As Larry "the cable guy" would say just gitter dun.

Like Fred K said to me a couple years ago at the Miami boat show "V8's belong in a car, not hanging off a boat transom", don't think you'll ever see a Mercury V8 outboard.

Maybe Evinrude fans need to go back to math class.
