steering
allisons that have rideguide steering usually have the cables coming in from opposite sides of the motor. your cables are coming in from the same side. at one point somebody probably replaced the steering on the boat. just keep an eye on it. pretty soon you'll probably switch to hydraulic like most since you can't get the rideguide cables anymore

Yea mine had it coming from both sides. I think some one else makes the ride glide cables now though. I never even put the motor on mine and rerigged it with a SeaStar Pro.
What year? Very nice. Is the pad stock?

Ss
Thats a sweet SS, I like the colors. The gears are prone to breaking on the Teleflex helm. I lost mine twice on my old v bottom. Not fun, it locked both times thankfully instead of releasing. Even that would have been scary in my SS. Hope you love yours like I do mine.

Ss2000/260
Lee, BEFORE you hit the water you need to take the boat to a professional that knows Allison setup & have them completely look it over. That steering isn't stock & looks suspect to me PLUS there could be a ton of other things about the setup that aren't right either. After the setup is right have that same person take it to the water with you & give you some driving tips. I remember you telling me you were still learning to drive your Vegas/OMC rig before you sold it, well the SS/260 is a whole different animal and will kick your ass just about when you think you know how to drive it. Be careful, get lots of seat time, take it easy & have fun !! Call me anytime ! Scott PS............here's one of my old boats, looks close eh ?
I'll be @ the bar ! & Listen to MORE Squarepusher !! Alcohol TYCOON !!!

allison
scott brings up a very good point. if there is somebody around you should try to get together with them. after making sure your setup is right a couple hours of hands on driving instructions will go a long way. not trying to scare you, and scott isn't either, just want you to be able to enjoy the boat. it's a bad a** rig. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!!! if you don't we will. where is your propshaft height right now?

If nothing else, the ballast of the instructor will help stabilize the boat. When If first got my SS2000 I could drive faster with a passenger than solo. The advice about getting the boat checked out is sound. Maybe have Paul at Top Gun look it over.
There is no substitute for seat time and patience. My SS is easier to drive with a 4 blade, so you might want to get a small Trophy or RE4. You may as well enjoy acceleration while you learn to go fast.

What Scott said! These boats are..."Different!" for sure! I had a XR2002 that was very very fast for 21+ years before I got the S.S. now, I love the S.S. but it's a lot more of a challenge than the XR...even tough it does ride much better. Let Scott help you some he's VERY GOOD with those boats! Also ditch that steering! Randy Tisdale has the Allison hydrolic set-ups for a very good price. That Steering is o.k. for a deck boat not a Allison for sure!!! Good Luck BE CAREFUL Mike T.
