What kinda speeds you think they were running with those motors on the course. If it was calm enough, 65?

Johnny
Id say 60-65, bay is pretty rough down here especially with a lot of boat traffic.

Fast Fun,
The first time the Challenger (post 214) showed up at a race-it didn't have a name on it. While the crew was backing down the ramp, the boat rolled off the trailer. The racers at the ramp watched and were busting balls, saying they were Fu*king Clueless. The next race they showed up with the new name-proving they could take a joke...Last edited by Fast Shafts; 02-12-2009 at 06:09 PM.

Philip, Michael, Snakebit anytime you'd like to come back to the lake and run around we still do from time to time well almost every weekend.
great thread brings back some great memories well except for JR that was a sad day. I remember alot of the old boats from greenwood lake's past i was one of those PITA kids at the furnace brook beach always bothering you guys and JR for rides. those were great summers . now back to challengers
I worked doing yard work for Gene Viola and every so often we would get a ride in a challenger either Infinity 3 or the red and white one he had they both rode very well.would like to know where those 2 boats ended up. yes gene hardly ran the boats his friend Bob Sacco took me for a few runs in infinity 3 and he ran it just about up to 80. the red and white one was the boat they used for skiing as a teenager that was a big thrill to drive when Bob wanted to ski. the other big thrill is when the playboy bunnies came over to the house at that time the playboy club was still open in Vernon NJ
you mentioned the big donzi on the lake would you mean "Jamesy Boy" the 24 foot donzi spitfire twin small blocks that was on the east shore of the lake. I would love to know where that boat has gone.
funny how small a world it is a few years back i ran into JR's older brother jack up at the algonquin up in Lake George he came by to see all the old donzi classics we bring them up there every june for a poker run and boat show. I met him he didn't regonize me but he said i was a donzi dealer, we chatted for awhile about the boats then he asked where are you from??? I said greenwood lake he laughed and said so am I.
any way if anyone wants to come up to the Greenwood lake and run just drop us a line. Kenny and I always run around in my 67 donzi and his 72 cigarette You guys should recognize the back ground in the pic of the cig and a pic from the dock next to where your pic was taken in 79
BTW there is a challenger that has been sitting on jersey ave for quite some time not sure what the story is with it an all beige boat with brown pin stripesLast edited by mattyboy; 02-11-2009 at 12:36 PM.

Hi Mattyboy
HI, yes I have been bringing my 21' Superboat up to Greenwood every now and then, the Yellow 21' that stops by Kenny's house sometimes.
Yes, my brother Michael, JR, and myself, pretty much lived in our boats. Jr's brother Johnny lives in LG now, I am pretty sure he has some pretty special old race boats in his collection.
I also saw that challenger on Jersey Ave. and have stopped to see it quite a few times, it is a Linder LI challenger, what a shame that it is just sitting there uncovered, it will eventually be lost.
I will stop to see you and Kenny this summer. Maybe I can get Snakebit to hop in for a ride, here is a picture of my Challenger and Jr's in front of my house, the one on the other side of Kenny's. BTW, I am pretty sure I saw Jr's boat in a driveway in West Millford covered under a tarp. any Idea who might own it now?

sounds like a plan summer can't get here quick enough for me.
I have not seen the challenger in west milford and I don't know who owns it. and the one on jersey ave as bounced around the village for years as you said uncovered most of the time, I did see it at willow point marina earlier this summer it looked like someone was trying to get it running and a day or 2 later it was back on jersey ave and has been there since.
we'll see you in the summer

Hi Matty, Yes you were a pain back then, but anyone who asked so many questions about our boats was welcome. I now live in Fla. and every once in a while I se a 21 of one version or other. Those were great days on G.W.L. and just seeing the picture of your boat and Kens brings me back, I saw that view out our window about 10 thousands times, remembering our house was about 50 feet to the right of Ken's. I had a yellow 21 superboat for a few years before moving to Fla. Herbie from West Milford convinced me to sell it to him before I left, something about it being too small for fla. It is still there although not used too much, Identicial yellow and white boat as my brother Philip currently has. thanks for the invite to the lake, would love to get back there.
Michael
