I am running 12" set-back also. I was originally 15" and reduced due to the bow getting 'flighty' and also had some porpoising. Found my boat likes props with more stern lift and less bow lift as set up now. My basic prop is a 28" turbo lightning 3 blade (large hub) @ 6000, 1.25"-1.5" above gets me 80-81 with 2 people and 3/4 tank. It also runs me straight and lifts the stern very well with great handling. My lower is a Yamaha HPDI which is the stock coned lower w/ 1.75 gears.
I just started to play with higher props end of last year so I am going to try some changes this year also as I know there is more potential. Bigger prop and more height might be helpful.1990 22' Activator Yami HPDI 300-sold-86.4

No notch, pad comes back to transom. I have relieved exhaust also.
I think a hydrolic jackplate would be advantagious also if you want to find the best top numbers. I have not changed to that yet.
Are you sure you are running your motor to 6500? Like Mikey said...your slip is high. Try your motor up higher and run less up trim to get more forward thrust first. If your slip is still high you might also have to much exhaust blowing over your prop like (mikey) said.
Did you by chance purchase your Challenger from Long island within the last year or so?Last edited by dnelson964; 02-29-2012 at 07:26 PM.

I believe that was the boat that came from aqua marine a guy owned it up in Huntington and ended up redoing the transom
on the topic of speed and slip, the best I'm seeing is 71 mph on gps 28 trophy @ 5800
My set up is:
250 merc efi
10" para lift
Remaned lower from stern drives limited with what I believe is 1:75 gears, the top 8 holes are plugged
At around 68 the chinning gets pretty bad Which I think is a combination of my driving ability and set up. The boat is definitlly heavy but I know there has to be a lot more there

Thanks Bobby, I thought that boat looked familiar to me. I knew the last owner and I have been all over that boat checking it out once. Last owner had trouble getting it over 60 with a 2.4 merc. It is a fully cored boat with big transom knees built originally for twins. The front floor is still in it and taking that out might help it lose some bow weight. Funny to hear Aqua Marine was involved with it.
It seems to be running much better now with the Vmax on it.
You just have to try some other props this summer Bobby.1990 22' Activator Yami HPDI 300-sold-86.4

We should make a plan to get together next month with that extensive collection of props you have been hoarding and see if I can get this slug dialed in right

We can do that...would be fun. I have yet to run a bunch of them and I have high expectations for this coming years results ! Yeah,You don't want to stay a slug forever. You are giving mercury a bad name!Last edited by dnelson964; 02-29-2012 at 08:42 PM.

I agree, something is not right. My challenger was a tank and with my 250 efi and 28 trophy it ran 80.

I plugged the top 8 holes on the lower and jack the thing up till I basically have 0 pressure...it still chines bad.
I've tried running the motor at all different heights and trim angles the outcome is still the same 70 -71 mph before have to get off it because the Chinning starts getting wicked no matter how I try to steer throught it
Eric you think a nose cone is going to really help ?Last edited by berzerko; 03-02-2012 at 07:48 AM.
