    Suzuki 250ss 4-stroke anyone??????

Just checking to see if anyone is or has thought about running this motor.
I have looked into many outboards in the last month and this one is still on my list.
To bad there is no way to test drive outboards.
I have had Mercury 2.5's for many years and I really like the motors but I don't have a good dealer near me.
I have a good Yamaha, Suzuki and Evinrude dealers near me.
I think that the 4-strokes are getting close the the 2-strokes.

they are about 100 lbs heavier than the comparable merc 250 XS. power is good but still not as strong as 2 stroke power, the 250 SS is a better motor than the 300 zuki but gains the added ponies through the use of the 300's block and a combining of the VVT and the variable intake the base 250 uses.. of the suzuki platforms its probably the best to look at as far as a good HP to weight and overall power to rated power.. the main real problem with a suzuki in performance use is the available range of propellers that fit them.. they need 16" diameter and BIG pitch due to their deep gearing through the use of offset driveshaft gear reduction and a low gear ratio lower unit.. final gear ratio is in the neighborhood of 2.08:1 versus say mercurys 1.62... so on your boat it may verywell take a 34P prop or larger if your hull will exceed 80 mph to get the motor in its RPM band and suzukis prop range stops at 32P... i havent seen where a bravo1 or other merc prop through the flow torque system have been very sucessfull while on a suzuki..

in their tests they ran one on a blazer pro V bass boat at 79.9 mph at 6250 rpm which i would assume to be a fairly close comparoson to your hull, and they used a 31P.. that doesnt leave much room if your hull runs faster throuh suzuki propellers... and since I havent seen a good running test of a merc prop on a suzuki in this arena yet you may be limited in terms of your actuall usability of this engine on your hull because of the propeller issues..

I had 225 Optis ,i wasnt clear above they were on a different boat ,a 28 cat.I have never worried about mpg just top speed,Nicks advice seems spot on .The Suzukis dont seem to use much fuel but i cant quantify it .I have been away a lot this year and havent had untill now the oppurtunity to test props ,I wont need inexcess of 30 "The guy at a prop shop i has in said the Merc and Suzuki props were interchangeable just use a different washer ???

We were expecting to see one at our first offshore race this season on the back of a 5.8 mono.
Reports on early testing says they were getting some good performance figures.
Had us wondering how it would go.
Appears the extra weight was a bit much as they turned it over in practice.
