    mods, who what where

    hi,

i have a 99 yamaha vmax 175, carbed. who what where. i want to do some upgrades, heres what i am thinking and i am looking for some input or if anyone has had trial error on any of these. thanks,

    boyesen power reeds

    some carb work (jetting?)

i think bobs machine shop sells theses; exhuast port or baffle(would like to know how they work or what the are about), nose cone, low water pickup

    any ignition upgrades

    fuel upgrades?

of course i am going to do a prop as well.

what works well, what doesnt, what has been done that reliable. would like to keep some sort or reliability. the outboard now has great accelleration, awesome fuel economy, and just has been super reliable. i know the fuel economy will drop but i would love to grab some more ponies and rpm out of it. thanks.

    Yamaha power upgrades

Do not do the exhaust , it will gain you nothing, you will probably loose power. Compression and carb/intake/reed change with the correct timing, probably 25degrees will give the best power gain. Also, split the rev limit wire coming out the bottom of the cdi aswell.

It disables it to allow you to rev over 6000rpm.

//// I wouldn't mess with Yamaha's ignition sys. Hydro-Tec has done a lot of R&D with higher compression heads. They can sell you a set of heads ,a set of the correct jets to match the increased compression, They also make a couple tuners for the V-6 . Call Nathan,Wayne, or Jon at Hydro Tec or E mail them they have always treated me more than fair. www.hydrotecmarine.com (417) 725-5746. Joe Raimondo

Ray has recently helped me out and I am very thankful. Not aware of details of his problems but I will definitely keep his family in my prayers.

Is Bob kottman still doing these motors? If not is there someone else?

I have a carbed 2002 vmax 150. Been reading up on this for 3 or 4 weeks now. I picked up a complete 220 special today except it has a 200 block, which I kinda expected after reading on here. I've pulled the heads and carbs off the 220 but was surprised to see vertical reeds. Is this the right intake? My vmax already has horizontal reeds, do I leave vmax intake and carb and just change the heads? What tuner and divider do I need to use? And which head gasket do I order? Sorry about the lengthy post. Also if in out of lone with any of this and would be better off sending my heads to be cut or get something different in wide open.
