Some nice slow dry heat. I had a boat that was going slow, so I slide it into a steel building, acted like an oven, heat came on slow when the sun came up. It's the one in my sig, not a crack to be seen, 14 years old this month.

    Simply YES IT DOES !!!
The surface you lay onto could be damp the glass will be damp for sure and all this has a big effect not only on the gel time but also the cure time and the final strength of the final lay up.
The lower the humidity the better ,do not exceed 70% humidity this is recommended for survey work , along with this the temprature should never be below 18 degrees celcius .
    Moisture kills resin !!!

You say a final coat consisting of what ,a layer of glass ? what kind of glass ?
    how many layers ?
Trouble is even if you appy heat and try to cook it the resin will never cure properly , so unfortunately it has to come off !! if its a woven or a stitched cloth just chisel up a corner and pull hard ,theres a good chance you could simply rip it off even if two people can get on to it .
If its just chopped strand you could have to grind it off.
How ever you get the layer off the surface it will need to be ground again anyway to get a 100% Good clean surface to reglass onto again !
This is a exspensive excise not only in time and effort but the materials and cleaning up after as well .

I do remember some one having a simular problem some time back and having to do the same thing.
Humidity is a subject to many people never even think about or take into consideration and has serious consequences on the job as a whole .
It even effects paint and makes it bloom ( go cloudy looking on the surface and have a poor shine ) when its being sprayed .
And of cause the meterials you intend to be useing on the job need to be dry as well .

    Something to think about !!
If you are using chopped strand matt ask for P matt !! this has a powder binder to hold all the strands togeather and does not absorb moisture .
Its a little more in cost but in this case better to use !!

E matt is the most common and because of the emmulsion binder it draws moisture and so the matt holds that moisture and feels damp ,which it is !!!!

Woven and stitched cloths dont use binders but they will need to be dry as well !!!

Keep your glass in a warm dry place always! dont just drop the roll on the floor and leave them there till you are ready to use it ,

While working in Tahiti we had a terrible problem with humidity ( never with temprature ) and had to build a tent over the 36 ft boat we were working on and in . It took 3 days to get the humidity down from the hi 90s to 80% and another 2 days to get to 72% .
Moisture comes from the air and everything inside the tent . In our case it was drawing moisture out of the ground as fast as 3 big dehumidifyers could go 24/7 . The FISHING boats were being built to a survey standard and there are rules that have to be followed and adhered to .

The natives were amazed how these machines could make so much water from no where !

If you are working inside your boat a tent with a dehumidifyer inside, its a good option but just tent over a frame and around the gunwhale and tape it closed completely . When you work inside wear a 3m carbon filter mask because the fumes from the resin will get very strong and you will also need to wear goggles to keep the fumes from your eyes .

OR Simply wait for a fine day to do your glassing !!

I got my samples of coosa board last week , great looking stuff and should work a treat .
Never seen anything like it here in nz .

I think there needs to be a section on the scream and fly of general info guys can go to for answers to everyday questions , not real technical stuff just the everyday nitty gritty things concerning glass , resins and common problems the like , what do you think !! any one ??
