I've been using tranny fluid in both of mine. It speeds them up a bit.

Transmission fluid, power steering fluid...I even know some folks who use 30W motor oil (which seems a little heavy to me, but it works).
Just stay away from anything that has detergents in it...it tends to make a lot of air bubbles.
I just replaced my old Oildyne trim pump with a Mercruiser model. Got all of the old fluid out of the ram cylinder that I could, without going through any extra trouble, then filled the new reservoir with power steering fluid, worked out all the air, refilled the reservoir, and went boating. Works flawlessly.

I've used Marvel mystery oil in the past, but recently have been using tranny fluid. If that mercruiser pump is not new, pull the resevoir off of it, and make sure the "socks" on the end of the pickups are clean before putting new oil in it. They can clog up and cause you a headache if the get some crap in em'.

The service manuals call for either the Merc trim fluid or 20W oil.

I just installed a fast pump in my ally and have had a couple of suprises coming down from speed. She's tried to come around to the right a few times now. You have to be real careful with the down trim.
Btw, chalk one more up for Marvel Mystery Oil.....
