Those are not Sportys.
Those are coned units.
You can get an adapter and run Merc sportys. Much better case than the BRP case for fully surfacing aplications.

there are lots of opinions and lots of personal bias, since most of us have a favorite (myself included). IMHO, it appears from every objective thing I have read and talking to people who are running them, you are going to do well with either the merc or the BRP. It is my understanding that the merc was slightly more fuel efficient and slightly faster when compared. However, some of that is probably attributable to merc having a better gear case which should be a consideration although I hear BRP is making great strides to even the playing field. It is also my understanding that BRP's customer service rocks and I do not hear that quite as much from the merc side. I think the BRP warranty is longer too, but i am not positive.
Short version, both are really good engines. Warranty and customer service seems to favor BRP, gearcase goes to the merc, and there is an arguable slight nod to the merc in performance and fuel economy, although how big the gap is and how long it will stay that way is anyone's guess. You are not going to go wrong with the merc or the BRP, and I would be happy to have either one as my next engine but i cannot afford either.

Wow
Thanks for posting the photos, they look unreal ,i assume that they are on etec 300s as they are white ,but i bet they are 1.86s ,we need 1.71 ,and they dont do counter rotation with 1.71s , can a counter rotation be done ?
Who does the sporty adaptors? how involved would it be to do it ?
thanks for the info

"Sportys"
They are on my boat..and they are XP's..they are 1:86, same internals as Magnums..the skeg has a "camber" to it, as these were only meant for RH, so I use a trim tab on the LH to counter this..Still a little hard to turn at WOT..I don't notice any performance advantage, but water pressure is great..I'm still experimenting with tow in and out, etc.. I have jack plates also..and "warmed up" 250 Etecs..Monty did them..

Very Cool!
What are they on?
Have heard good things about those housings on singles and have had similar thoughts to yours for twins but had also heard of the camber in the skegs.
Had heard the XP's were 1/2" bigger O.D. than the Magnums? Just thicker castings if so then?
Kudos to you for putting the time and effort into doing them and the motors.
I'll trade you a pair of EFI 225 Mercs and all the money I have in the bank for themLast edited by Instigator; 07-27-2008 at 07:40 PM.
