    Interesting.

    A 19 footer with a 250HO will be quicker than a 21 footer with a 300XS towing 1 skier for example.

There are no 19' boats running a 300XS just yet nor no 21' boats running a 250HO to compare like with like.

I thought they might be close based on what I had seen/read so far.

Looks like I inserted the wrong video's. Sorry guys. Very confusing because the 250HO looks the same. I look at Darrens new ride & see an E-Tec decaled cover on a Sporty? gearcase with a Wayne Taylor? mid. So what actually is it?

thanks for the info and vids guys....I thought those first vids that LN posted sounded pretty naaasty for a stock motor but the other ones were cool too.

so two questions: how come the rudes seem to be more popular in Australia?

what do you think a 20' bass/flats boat weighing 1600 lbs will run with a new 250 H.O.? The boat I am looking at is a sterling and one guy with the same boat has a 2001 300X on it an it runs mid to high 80's. Do you think the newer H.O would get close? Here is the boat: http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...00-XS-89883680

    1. Seems like they are ahead of us on the release curve. They get the good stuff first!

    2. I don't know that hull, but the performance should be similar between the two motors. On E-Tec1's Mirage the 250HO seems to work And that setup weighs 1700#. Is it 1600# ready to roll?

Hi SurfDogg, another answer to your question No.1 can be related to warranty. BRP are covering the 250HO in the ski race scene here down under while Merc do not from what I am lead to believe. To a SMOC guy this is important because as I am sure you are aware these things can be expensive when they break due to the loads that the engine is under when racing. Yes we seem to get product B4 some other parts of the world.

What BRP like to say down under is that their "fishing" engine is holding its own against the XS Mercs, which are strong engines, and this can only be good for the end user because competetion is good for any product.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

There is still a whole bunch of black engines in our sport. I would say around 80% as a guess. Reason for this is Merc have a HP department who have supported the sport for a long time. BRP now wants a slice and is proving to be competitive in SMOC (Standard engine upto 250Hp) and is also showing support by allowing racers to retain there warranty.

There is a world class in Ski Racing (F2) that uses upto 300Hp standard engines - this is obvioulsy dominated by the 300xs - so hoping that BRP will produce a 300HO or at least a 300 in 20 inch soon.

Huey and DSP1 thanks for the info...so a 300 etec is not currently offered in a 20" ?? how do you think the 250 HO and the 300 etec would face off on a lighter boat?

Hi Surf Dogg, no the 300HP is only available as 25 and 30 inch shafts. The 250HO and 300HP are the same engine just with different software and gearboxes. On a light hull the 250HP with the L2 box and gear ratio would perform better than the 300HP.

A different story on say a heavy deep-vee offshore fishing boat where the SLE Magnum gearbox is better suited.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

the same as the R.H. on the fish motors but they are also 1.86 gears not the 1.71 of the new HO's.
You'd either have to wait and see what BRP gives uf for '09 or do Sporty's.
