You are right and wrong. What you are seeing is the trip average. By "trip" I mean since the car was started. The car resets this when it has been started cold. If I run into a store or eat at a restaurant it is not reset. Your math is correct for the whole tank. 14.8 gallons to go 802 miles or 54.1 MPG. It will also show you the miles per trip, time per trip, average speed per trip, miles left for fuel in tank etc.

On this trip I was driving really conservatively to get to my 800 mile tank. It was also the "downhill" part of my commute. Getting there is the uphill part and it ALWAYS takes more fuel. That milage is accurate for that particular 62 miles. The same 62 miles the other way is usually 52 mpg.

    Don't bet on it.

I use this thing like a pack mule. I can get 10' stock in it with the trunk closed. My most impressive load was 12 8' PT 4x4's, and 6 80# bags of cement. I had to make another trip to get the rest of the cement When I bought it I did so knowing I was going to use it hard. Lets just say Greg would NOT approve of the way the interior is treated.

And it will tow the Viper

Pyro, does doing that hurt the trans???
I always cost most of it is up to red ligths! I always see people maitaining speed, 50 or so, right up to the light and then breaking rather hard, don't think they have a clue to their wasting gas and wearing down their breaks!

If you mean downhill, I agree. You should actually be in drive and let the wheels turn the engine, rather than using fuel in neutral.

However, I would be surprised if there are not fuel savings from putting it in neutral at red lights.

    Thumbs down

It's nice to know that my wife and children are sharing the road with selfish, thoughtless head cases that think a truck is a toy and the roads are their personal playground While you're conducting "experiments" and practicing pseudo science in a 3600 lbs. vehicle on public highways your fellow citizens are just trying to get home alive. Never wondered why scientist conduct experiments in a controlled environment? You may as well have a bottle of yukon jack between your legs

Relax guys, I'm doing this mostly on rural roads with no cross-traffic, and while stopped at red lights. I don't think I'm being a hazard.

I'll be looking for 30 mpg on my calculator tomorrow morning.

The next person to sit at a red light with their car off and cause me an extra 3 seconds of idle time while I wait for them to re-start their car and put it in gear is getting a fullsize chevy truck grill rammed up there.........

newsflash dummy, pyro's mazda does not have locking hubs.

Pyro your ride is awd anyway right? I am pretty sure it is not a selectable 4wd, so removing the front driveshaft would either render the truck imobile, or would destroy the t-case.
