    225 efi vs 225 optimax

Has anyone compared the perfomance of a Mercury 3L EFI 225? to an opti 225?

The engine will be going on a 19ft vee bottom weighing about 700lbs.

I have been told the efi will be quicker.

On a boat here in Europe, 20ft long, the efi was faster by 2-3 mph. 72mph for the optimax and 75mph for the efi running the same prop (tempest 26)

    re:225 efi vs opti

i purcheased a 23zf donzi last year new that came rigged with a 250 efi (1mpg) i did some quick math and figured that i would be broke by the end of sumer.i traded that motor in with 18 hrs on it for a opti 300xs (3.0mpg) the difference is basically night and day. oh, and the oill consumption on the 250efi (well it was horrible too).

Happen to have run these motors on the same two boats, one a 27' and the other a lite 20' flats hull. Big boat not much diff. (3-4mph) On the 20' flats hull there was a big diff. (8-10mph) I like the opti but love the efi. Both motors are problem free, The opti burns 50% oil and gas of the efi. Also the efi likes prem. gas and the opti likes reg. Either go fast or go cheep.
