    valero yt/br setup

boat seems to handle better w/ battery, tool kit, anchor in front port compartment. i know it's not recommended for weight in bow. any suggestion from someone with similar setup? stk 3.0 looper, 6in cmc hyd., 5 deg wedges, dah 27, 6200 @ 81 mph. i know the looper is heavy, any suggestions? thanks, sean

mmm, I'm currently running a stock Merc 175, 6" manual jack, quicksilver chopper 24 at about 6500rpm and 71 MPH. I've not even begun to tinker with the setup. I know my motor can be raised at least another 1-2"....I've read an article from the Hydrostream Registry that had the Valero YT/Merc 175, Chopper 26, nose cone, solid mounts, etc running mid 80's! I also own a 3.0 Merc 225Xri that I've considered dropping on the Valero......

How is your handling?? Any Chine walk?? Make sure you're retaining water pressure with those motor heights, solid motor mounts, tight steering, etc. I would maybe drop down to a 26 Dah Chopper or 26 Trophy prop as the 3.0 looper may not want to spool up the rpms....I think if you could see 6500-7000 rpm you'll hit those high 80's!

no chine walk when over 1", 25-30lbs water press., solid upper mount, sea star pro, etc. you may be right about the lower pitch, if i could get my dah 27 to 6500 it should run 85-86, i'm running neg trim now, rooster tail is about 1 foot lower than cowl. it's when i put more trim to it, it gets squirly. especially w/ weight in stern.

Wow..you have a ton of water pressure!! I would try raising the motor even higher, then you could run with neutral trim and keep the bow at a neutral attitude...I've driven alongside MrCrsr's Hydrostream Virage (same bottom as us but wider). He runs the shaft above the bottom of the pad and his boat runs dead flat and flys!!!!!! (up to 107mph or more with a 260).

that's movin, i'd love to be able to run in the 90's, but i know that i need more power to do it. if i could run mid 80's i'd be content w/ current motor. i haven't had boat long enough to really figure it out. a friend of mine is currently looking at a virage with a 225 promax, so that's good to hear they can run stable at higher speeds.

Is that the Virage that was on Ebay from NY a few weeks ago?? If it is, it's a really clean well dept boat..

with the heavier 3.0 you need more transom lift. look at the 26-27 trophy. my 26 on a voyager w 200xs is running 76 at 6600. 27 msy put it finally to 80.

ha, actually that's what i had done to the other except now i'm running holley pump. my old one didn't seem to run any faster up top. it did have more low and mid range punch, from increased comp. i guess. anyway, seems to be doing ok.
