    Yamaha Four Stroke

I have been running a 2001 225HP Evinrude Ficht ( which blew up this fall) on my 209 Escape Grady White.
It is recommended that I got to a Yamaha four stroke.
Should I go to the 225HP or go top a 250 HP based on the additional motor weight?
What will be the noticeable pewrformance variables?

It will more than likely be slower out of the hole and top end, plus you will have to buy controls and gauges and oil changes an have fun things like valve clearance checks and timing belts. An etec will bolt right up to every thing on your boat as is.

225 is plenty of horse power for the 209 escape. The 250 is a significantly stronger engine but it requires higher test gas. Gradys have deep hulls which don't make good go fast boats....

If your worried about weight find a 200 HPDI...

If you care about weight and performance, get another direct injected 2-stroke. I understand that your 2001 FICHT experience might not have been that pleasant, but the current offerings from Mercury, Yamaha and Evinrude are much better engines that your 2001 FICHT.

The Yamaha F225 is a very reliable engine but not the strongest by any means. Go for the F250, its much stronger and just as reliable. Maintenence is not as bad as the other manufactures make it sound. I have personnaly seen the F225s in commercial use with over 5000hrs on them and never had the valves adjusted and still have the original timing belt. Most valve lash issues are caused by carbon build up and in most cases is resolved by decarbing the engine. The biggest thing is to keep the oil changed every 100hrs and keep good filters on it.
