That depends. Is the transom behind the knee`s or between them like stock? If it is like stock then it could push forward like mine did. Mine caved in from the bottom and the stringers were not hurt. When i repaird it i made the transom wider so that it was behind the stringers so that would never happen again. If it`s like mine was i would install a cross brace.

cross brace I would I have some material in the shed from some older project that you could cut and make fit

I guess i missed those. Thats exacltly how i did mine years ago and it held up just fine without a cross brace.
