OK, but with your setback (almost double what I have), you need more up than that. If you are going to lift them all and add the extension in the middle, how about lift them all 7" instead of 5"?

Joe, I believe (since the motors are Evolution Marine) that they are Evo Marine cases.

I talked to Kevin a bit ago and he tells me his number is 1" for every 8" back, a little different that what I was going by. Do this, measure from the transom to the back of the torpedo, where the prop meets it. My measurement is 48". So, from the transom to the leading edge of the prop, the water should rise 6". With my props 3/4" C/L below the bottom, that means the prop tips are still just below the water level. If you watch that video, you will also see that the water is around level with the cav plate.
I am raising my motors 2" this weekend and hope to water test this weekend too. Then I'll know how 1-1/4" above at 48" back works. Just another data point.Last edited by STV_Keith; 04-04-2007 at 01:58 PM.

Well then, I'm going for it! I hope to be over 80 with the new, fresh Monty motors (380+hp/side), CLE gearcases and jackplates! Woo HOO - fastest 30' OB Scarab in the country!

Well, the boat is together, but I've been working through a bunch of little, misc. issues. I think the extra 4" setback of the jackplates is too much, as it now porpoises all the time unless you run the tabs down a good bit...and that is sapping speed. Been to 70 once real quick and it was chine-walking more and sooner as well.
Also, seem to have a power pack issue with one motor, which is slowing everything down...won't pull clean past 5700rpm while the other motor is sitting on 6500.
I'm swapping the power pack tonight and will keep playing with it next weekend. It may all be a mute point until I have a new bracket built, with less setback though. That's slated as one of my winter projects.Keith-

Enjoy reading all the info. We have the original Scarab 38AVS molds here in Texas and the first boat is in the mold now. And yes it will be center console. It will be going out to Gordon and to be rigged with trip 400 Mercs. Will do the big eights at some point but we have too many other projects with them now. Any feed back would help

No updates guys. I really need to have a bracket built to lose the 4" of setback I gained with the jackplates. I love the V8's, but breaking a gear case once a year sucks. Now I think I want to swap from the CLE's to 3.0 Torque Masters, but I don't have the cash to do so at this time. I think the shorter case length may be a little faster, the bigger water pumps in the 3.0 cases may let me get away from the added electric water pumps (which really takes away from the turn-key ability of this boat), and should also stop the breakage problem.
Climax, the stuff you are playing with is awesome, and Gordon is a great guy to work with. I'd love to see the pics of the 38 and the layout. The only thing I don't like about my 30' is the size of the cabin. I'd love to have the exact same boat layout wise, but 6' longer with 6' more cabin and about a foot more beam.Keith-

30 Scarab
Ya, My best friend is selling his 30 today. Loved it but looking for a larger boat, mainly beam! Ran a best of 62 with the 250 Etecs moderately loaded.
