I'm not sure why we are speculating about anything having to do with the design of that boat....why would you assume there isn't a corresponding plate on the inside of the transom?
You're not suggesting that some hack put that $500,000 boat together...are you?

That mod is a transom issue - not a drive issue.

Dude, modification is just that, you just classified 3/4 of this board, myself included as "hacks" when you want to do something that hasnt been done before, you make it work, the difference is how the finished product works, and looks, that looks pretty cool to me, but what do i know, im just a hack, and im not sure but i dont think there is anywhere you can buy an off the shelf hull to fit a gas turbine.....

What were those boats running for power? With that size exhaust outlet it could be up to 5000 HP. And that's not anything like the 5000 HP a nitro drag engine produces, a big turbine can produce that power for 2000 hours.

If I'm not mistaken that type of drive doesn't put much for loads on the transom, all of the thrust loads are bourne by the stringers. Anyone know different?
Looks like you can't get away from steering loads though. Maybe that's why the plates are there.

it must be that time of the month for you guys. I said IF that plate is there to FIX the transom, its hack, not "if you are doing something that hasnt been done before" I think its pretty cool looking if the only thing its doing is backing up the drive. Jeeze...
FYI, Nor-tec has been making boats with the option of turbine power for years now. That plate doesnt look like something nortec would rig on one of their boats either, imo.> Stainless steel Merc cowling plates - $110 shipped TYD - LINK <

1Bad has a good point. I wonder is the investigators knew about this...
There's two other differences that I can also see:
What are the small plates below the grab handles?
AND The tie bar ends are different in the second photo, the welds at the tie bar end looks rather fresh and un-dressed.
Everyone was NOT ok...Last edited by pyro; 10-12-2006 at 12:51 PM.

This wreak was a terrible tragedy lets leave the investigating & speculating to the investigators, thats what they are paid to do. All parties involved will be missed greatly. God bless their friends and family.

Chummy's right.............
Let it go !! People died and several families lives have been terribly changed forever. The boats were so badly damaged we will probably never know what actually caused the accident. Would anyone here like people speculating on what kind of monkey-rig caused them to DIE !!! I wouldn't. If our boats would go 150 we would be 3 across just like the first River Ranch trip. We all run rivers that aren't very wide and if anyone here can say they havent passed someone at 100+ either you can't go that fast or they are full of it ! This was an accident.
God Bless and God Speed to all the departed. May our boating brothers and sisters rest in peace............. Mike
