and finally heres the pics after honing the cylinder. i used a flexible ball hone, 320 grit. the cylinder was not tapered it measured out real good. it does have 2 scratches in it though. you can seee em in the pics. one your nail can hang and the other it wont. i know its not perfect but i think this may fix my idling problem and give me more run time overall than i had before the repair.

thanks to all who gave me the advice and info related to fixin this thing!

I wouldnt run extra oil. Dont give it WOT for any extended time untill you have a few hours run time on it. Let it idle on the hose untill it is fully warmed up then completely let it cool down before you take it out the first time.

Cool I hope you started it right away

Remember we mentioned to run it and assemble it as soon as you were done honing and cleaning it up if it was not torn down all the way so that the acid vapors would not get into the motor.
Get it running ASAP. 32 to 1 on dinosaur oil . Run it in gear on the trailer at idle to 1500 rpm for 10 minutes to seat the rings and get some heat into the motor.
After that everyone has their own ideas about breakin. I want my rings to seat fast before the sharp hone edges are worn or it will take forever. I want my pistons to seat slowly and I want to work the upper portion of the cylinder and upper rpm range slowly as the rods will be stretching at higher rpm. Also depends on if its a lake motor or drag motor. Do a search on break in and you'll find a ton of suggestions. Switch to Synthetic oil after 10 hours or a couple tanks of fuel.
