    Electric fuel pump

What is the best way to connect an electric fuel pump? The Merc 200 I bought used, has an electric pump connected in line before the mech pump. (That is the same way the inboards I've owned were done) but I've seen a few outboards that bypass the mech pump completely. If this is the way to go, do I need to do anything to the mech pump or just bypass it?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hobe,
You can remove the pump from the motor, you will need to plug off the pulse hole behind where it was mounted and put a pipe plug in the block where the 90* fitting is on the crankcase that the other pulse hose was connected to.

you shouldn't need to run an electric pump for that motor. Mercury fuel pumps work fine for many applications. I would rebuild the stock pump and forget the electric pump altogether.

    pumps

I have had no problems with stock 200's with carbs and mech pump. they are simple and effective. also maybe a little safer. but if you do decide to run a electric, do lile m.chapman says and dont forget to use a pressure regulator set at 3 to 4 psi. good luck, john
