Aeromarine Research's "Secrets of Propeller Design" - History & Design of Propellers

    February, 2006

AeroMarine Research® has just introduced the new 3rd edition “Secrets of Propeller Design” book. This 2006 publication written by well-known performance powerboating author Jim Russell, chronicles an in-depth discussion on Propeller design, Pitch, Rake, Skew, Venting, Cupping,Propeller Types, Fundamentals of Cavitation, Ventilation, Blowout, Slip,Nosecones, Labbing, Gearcase design, Surface Drives, and Speed Calculation formula.

The book includes "History & Design of Propellers" and presents a detailed accounting of how the first "screw" applications were invented, and how they led to early ship propulsion. Outlining "How a Propeller Works", parts and functions of a properly designed propeller, including material selection and "advanced propping" techniques, cupping, gearcase design and nosecone application is outlined. The book also includes Speed prediction formulae and propeller selection methods.

This is a "must have" book for serious boaters, designers and enthusiasts that have "a need to know".

AeroMarine Research® also publishes the popular "Secrets of Tunnel Boat Design©" book in over 45 countries, (now in its 12th printing), and distributes “Tunnel Boat Design” software for tunnel and vee-hull performance design; and “Propworks2” software for propeller selection and speed prediction.

“Secrets of Propeller Design” book is available for $39, from AeroMarine Research® 67 Highland Crescent, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, N1S 1M1. Or Call their Hotline: 1-519-622-5468 www.aeromarineresearch.com.

Currently living in Canada, he has done extensive aerodynamic research at University of Michigan, MI and University of Toronto, Canada and marine research at the NRC water channel laboratory in Ottawa, Canada. His published papers are highly acclaimed, and are specifically related to the aerodynamics and hydrodynamics of high performance catamarans, tunnel boats and modified vee-hulls; and has appeared on SpeedVision's Powerboat Television as a guest expert on 'Tunnel Hulls, and was performance/design technical consultant on National Geographic's 'Thrill Zone' TV show. Russell has designed and built many tunnel boats. As a long-time professional race driver, he piloted tunnel boats to Canadian and North American championships. He has written power boating articles for many worldwide performance magazines and has covered UIM and APBA powerboat races. Russell is the author of the "Secrets of Tunnel Boat Design" book, "History of Tunnel Boat Design" book, and the "History and Design of Propellers." His company has designed and published the well-known powerboat design software, "Tunnel Boat Design Program© ", specifically for the design and performance analysis of tunnel boats and powered catamarans.
