Mercury Sport Jet 90 hp ??????

I'm looking at a 90 hp Mercury Sport Jet in a Tracker 18' boat. Does anyone know anything about these motors and jet drives? Are they a problem motor, or do they do a good job? I'm going to run up the river arms chasing white bass. I will be going up 2 or 3 riffles above the back water. It is a 1995 model. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

that motor SUX... FEEL THE FORCE.. SWIM TO SHORE... the 90/120 SJs were FORCE powerheads and wernt that great.. the 175 and up however are GREAT.. look to a slightly newer 18 tracker and get the 175... the 90's were dogs, as were the 120's.. those are the 2 you dont want to have..

I have a friend that has a 90hp sportjet in a little Donzi. It has no power. Takes forever to get on plane and is pretty slow. It would be a fun boat if it had some power in it.

what you need to get is a custom boat from the Curtis, aka " the crazy canadian", builds a delta pad boat that will absolutely fly, handle, and perform amazing well with a sport jet. i have to be more specific on what i previously posted, the sport jet is a great unit, as long as you have the power to push the hull. I have been in 90 and wasn't impressed. if you want more info on Curtis just drop a pm.

    Srort jet vid

Check out the Outlaw Eagle sport jet vid over on you tube. I think they are 16' hulls with merc 6 cyl jet power. I don't have the link but it's not hard to find. Cool boats and worth a look

biggest problem with the sport jet was the ignition system and over the years they kept trying to get it together, they finaly went to the cdm system and offer an upgrade kit to increase reliabilitiy. just remember to change the flywheel also or your timing wont be right and the new trigger wont work with the old flywheel

90 sport jet was used in boats as small as 14 ft...... and were pretty doggy in anything but 14-15 footers..... a 90 SJ performed about like a 65 hp prop boat....

If anyone needs info on Outlaw Eagle etc ask away. I work there

We've always used 175/240's and now of course that they have been discontinued and our supplies have run out we're into the 200/250 Optimax's.

    I think you're refering to these video's

Here's one of mine with a number of SJ scene's in it

They also appear on our media page at

    Cool Outlaw Eagle Boats

    Thanks Xerophobic,
That's the clips I was talking about. Yall build one hell of a boat, or should I say "boats". We have 2 nice rivers close by, one is the James River and the other is the New River. I would love to get out there and rip it up in a sport jet! I'm sure I would end up getting locked up! For some reason the po-po in VA. doin't care for jet boats of any kind ?? Don't know what the hell's up with that but that's the way It seems to me. So really, do the locals have any problems with yall haulin ass up through the smaller beaver trapping creeks, duck hunting rivers and and fish camp streams? I bet they are all like "Hells Bells there goes the DG neighborhood"

Ive been meaning to talk to you!

Whats the deal with your AV picture. Do you know anything about this shot and its background? I just came across a high resolution version yesterday on Hotboat and have it as my desktop. Awesome picture!

Anyway most of the places we run are way out in the middle of nowhere. Jetboating here is still not a widly known and popular thing to do, well relatively. Except for the populated area's or rivers that run through big cities like Edmonton and Calgary there isn't usually an issue.

Of course like any motor sport there are always those out there wishing to ban us and we always need to be as careful as possible not to get those folks riled up.

    Cheers
