Willabee: it was Chester and yes I'm pretty sure you're right that he was Don's father. I do remember talking to him when I was in the Service Dept. I started there in 97.

Don't know, we spoke more about Skip's accident. It was a race on a river, there was a ferry that wasn't supposed to run during the race. The ferry ran with a guide cable stretched across the river. When the ferry wasn't running, the cable was slack laying under the water. When operating, the cable was taut on or near the surface. Somehow, the ferry was run during the race & Skip hit the cable. What a freaking stupid act! Did you get a chance to look at those records?

Lightning Strikes .....
I agree that they are the same boat. I never understood why it was sent to Florida and then recalled. Maybe that was when drivers were being hired and we were short on boats that didn't have the nose torn off.
That video says 'Sirois OPC testing', but I don't think that it was Bill Sirois doing the driving. I think Mike Downard was brought in for that test, but am not positive. He may have campaigned that Molinari for a couple of races until the new hulls were delivered.
The two dudes in the safety boat changing props and recording data are Jimmy Kubasta & Boob Hetzel. They are running the first Cowbell 1350 DC to hit the water!

After a very disappointing Parker in March 69--I got a call from GG--there was a Molinari available----would Dick Williams and I be interested? But it needed to be picked up in Oshkosh. I got in Old Blue and made a three day marathon (3000 miles) -Dick had been my co-driver at Parker-had very little race boat experience--but, was very talented and a huge help to me when I was trying to juggle three separate careers
Dick ran it in one local race---and then we loaded up and headed to Galveston--
To be continued--

------We did pretty good in Galveston; GG sent us a brand new SBP Stacker for the Moli--we added the 'Lightning' ---changed to the new APBA number and entered the Miami 225.. First time many of us had met the Italian Scotti.
Dick was supposed to drive 'solo' --but for some reason he couldn't ---I had logged about five minutes Molinari time when the race started--
