Lars.. it was a time when we made so many changes . And to tell you the truth we have never seen anything higher at that time.
Remember it was all naturally aspirated with 100 octane fuel 10:1 compression.

Two milestone motors were at the heart of this consumer excitement: the revolutionary “quiet” Sea-Horse 5½ hp, which would outsell every other model of outboard made in a single year in industry history to that date, and the new electric start Sea-Horse 25.

Well an overseas friend of mine has this perfect running 3.5 Liter F1-V8 powerhead. (picture)
He is looking for a mid section and gearcase.
I offered him to buy the powerhead instead..!!..

V4 crossflow motor with Algon throttle bodies, McGee crank driven fuel pump and metering system (like Hilborn), 50% step-up gearbox in mid-section and 16" Record steel prop on 1 to 1 lower unit. The 130 mph record run was at 6800 rpm and about 80% throttle so could have been quicker on better water conditions.
