I just picked up a clean laser 422 21 footer. If anyone knows guys that have owned them, I'd love to talk with them. Going to update set up this winter. Things like handling characteristics, how they handle set back, how heavy of an engine they can handle, etc. I heard not many were made, so just a shot in the dark. Thanks.

There's a guy on here RevmanII who currently has one with a 225 OMC. Years ago there was one running around on Lake George NY with a 3.6 V8 and that ran over 90. All I can tell ya they are the only two I have ever seen.

Starcraft bought out Performance boats who coppied the Laser 380 and changed up the deck somewhat. It was a very controversial move back in the mid 80`s when Laser owned the marathon circut in Mississippi. It was bad enough that at a race i hooked my 380 into (nonintensional) one of the copies and sunk it. Took the whole side out of it and put a small basketball size hole in my boat. Laser builders (slowverado`s Dad and Uncle) were at my trailer wanting bto shake my hand and offered to repair my boat at no charge. The reason for this was that these guys had worked very hard designing and making the 380 what it was and to have someone simply copy it was a slap in the face.

How do these boats like set back? I know there is setback built into them currently I have a 6" jack plate. Was thinking about putting my hydrolic jack plate on and adding another 4". My hydrosteam loved the set back, but I see most people here only run 6". Thanks for the advice.

I've had 4", 8" and now 10" of setback. So far the more the better.
