    Year: 1985
    Kevlar or not: Not

    Motor: 1999 mercury 300 promax
    Lower unit ratio: 1:75 Titus
    Setback: 12"
    Engine height: 3/4" above
    Prop: 28 labbed promax

The the best I could get with a 26 trophy plus on the limiter was 80. LOVE the promax prop!

What kind of speeds are you getting with the dbr 300xs?

Before I get rid of my X which does 90.8 and my son's does 97. What kind of speeds are we talking with a 300 Verardo? Then we have to consider what a 400R would do. One of the things I have been wondering about.

I am very interested myself. I would love to take the X off your hands.

You don't know me that well. I have 6 boats and a boating sickness. Don't ever sell anything I'll possibly use again and my 31 Sutphen has 3, my sons Velocity has 1. It would just be a spare but as of now a 300X is my all time favorite outboard and I can't count as high as engines I've had. Doubt i'm making any changes. Love what I got.

Mine does 80GPS. 400r should go over 90GPS - on my boat with my set up. A lighter, older Velocity should go faster.

This doesn't even begin to cover the acceleration. The mid range torque from a verado will spank the two stroke courtesy of the supercharger.

I can only imagine a 400R on a Velocity, need a pretty serious transom to handle that.
    Some new numbers

    1987 not kevlar
    2.5 merc carbed.

    Lower unit: 1:87
    Setback: 10"
    Engine height: 3/4 below
Prop: 25 trophy plus. Small hub I think, it's smaller diameter than gearcase.
    Engine RPM: 5800
Speed: 62, 3 people, full tank

Yea they are potent. 400R on an old one would be cool. I think my sons 300X on a new style was running 84 though. Thats where it spent the beginning of its life. I'll have to go back and read some old posts and see what he said he was getting.

I have not finished the boat yet, need to paint it and rig it, the 300xs is on my 24 superboat right now but plan on putting it on the velocity whenever I finish it

Mighty-Lime, thank you for the posts on your setup. I find what you have done with the Verado very very interesting.
Please keep reporting your findings with your unique setup

Not good enough. If that all you do your gonna destroy your transom if you plan on running rough water. What we do is put in a real set of knees tied in to the stringer system. Then a 4" angle aluminum bridge and radius rods through the well then in to angle aluminum across the well where your top bolts go through.

Interesting setup, I like what you've done. What you have a there may stop the engine being ripped off the back but I doubt it's very stiff. Your bolts are in single shear, and bolts hate being in shear, you may likely break those bolts eventually, or the bracket holding them. A secondary bracket (or tab on the lower), on the other side of the ball joint would stiffen it up considerably.

I have honking big coosa board connectors from the bucket floor, down the transom, tied into the pad. It's somewhat similar, but doesn't go as far as yours to connect up to the transom saver. What it does do is force the bucket floor to act as a very large rib. It also stiffens the transom with two very deep vertical ribs adjacent to the lower mounts.

Ive knocked the snot out of it with no cracks.
