I have watched several docudrama episodes depicting the royal family and her life from her childhood. She is def a bad ass woman. She devoted her life to her job. Made the hard decisions, and always went for the good of the country. They ran some home movies of her family activities/vacations on PBS several days ago. Very regular people considering their circumstances. My English friends say the population is about 50/50 in favor of them. As the population changes toward foreigners, they will eventually lose favor and be no more than figures in the background.
I missed this thread until now........ People even Canadians forget, Canada is a constitutional monarchy and Queen Elizabeth is also our Queen as well... Although her role as our head of state and commander and chief of armed forces, is mostly ceremonial. The crown is still a big part of our basic civics and the Queen still has some influence on our politics.....

There is some benefits to having the monarchy and sharing this ceremonial link with Britain. As in sharing a monarch, head of state and commander and chief. The biggest is in foreign trade, as we get special treatment in most commonwealths. And Britain usually negotiates trade deals that includes us as well.
