One Mirage That Is Not An Illusion
A Feature on Steve Zuckerman's Custom Mirage
Article by Mark Soliman and Steve Zuckerman

This time around, Steve contacted Boatworks for a timing system that would automatically control trim and nitrous injection, in an effort to make more consistent runs down the quarter mile with a fresh ’97 2.5 EFI 15” heavily tweaked powerplant.  Heavily tweaked consists of G-Force grinding work, lightened pistons by Hydrodynamics, Taylor Marine reed cages assemblies, Brucato SVS intake, 175 HP nitrous alcohol system and lean burn by Nitrox, self designed nitrous and alcohol purge system, wash down system, lightened flywheel, special O-ring’d heads and gaskets, remote EFI adjuster and many more Kay Bee-toy store parts.  All this resulted in an estimated 500 ponies when holding down all the red buttons! Lawrenceburg Marine of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and Chuck Goodman of Nitrox/Hydrodynamics participated in the effort of keeping this powerplant in one piece after a few broken parts.

Left: Carefully positioned fuel cells.
Right: What's this? The 175 HP Nitrous system looks scary - before Steve hits the button.  Where do I sign up for a ride?

The fact that this rig is actually used to it’s full potential is what makes it so special.  So far in the first season out, Steve’s best ET is 9.74 @ 110.97mph and he already placed 3rd in the ODBA Unlimited class at the 2001 Tennessee Summer Nationals.  This meteorite is definitely on fire and one to watch out for in the 2002 season.

Steve's "family" boat - a 1998 Baja H2X with a  454 EFI and Procharger.  Whoa.
