Tuff
Tube™ Heavy Duty First Aid Kit
A First Aid Kit Designed For
Extreme Environments
It's a sobering
reality that people do get hurt on boats, and prudent performance boaters
are aware that with increased horsepower and speed come increased
chances for injury to the vessel operator and passengers.
Although first
aid kits are recommended as part of the U.S. Coast Guard safety checklist for boats
used on public waterways, there's no real specification that dictates the
actual quality and durability of these items. As many know, the marine
environment is very harsh, and first aid materials are especially
susceptible to water damage. There are many Coast Guard approved
marine first aid kits available, ranging from simple kits in little
cardboard boxes to more expensive kits with plastic cases. The one
thing that most of these conventional kits have in common is that the cases
they are provided with are generally flimsy and many times, not even water
resistant.
The Tuff
Tube™ is a new product on the market that is designed for the kind of abuse
and environments a boater or any other outdoorsman might subject it to.
It's an extremely rugged and weatherproof tube, measuring 14(35.6cm) inches by 3(7.6cm)
inches that houses a full 72-piece high quality first aid kit, including
medical scissors, bandages, tweezers, burn ointment, pain relievers, gauze
pads, and a first aid manual.

The tube,
which is constructed of Schedule 40 PVC by
Lasco Fluid Distribution
Products, is extremely robust, and fully weather
and waterproof. It can easily withstand heavy shocks and impacts,
protecting its valuable contents. The contents of the Tuff Tube are quickly
accessed by unscrewing a large cap at the end, which is fully re-sealable.
The Tuff
Tube includes two
Velcro® 36-inch(91.4cm) Quick Straps® to easily secure it to a variety of
locations without having to drill holes for custom brackets, etc.
Company founder Tom Clark and his partner, Darrin Gambrill are both Boat and
ATV owners, and they recognized the need to be able to transport and easily
mount this product almost anywhere.
I tested the
Tuff Tube by submersing it in water several feet deep for a period of eight
hours. Prior to submersing it, I unscrewed and reattached the cap 25
times. When opened, there was no trace of any water infiltration
inside the tube.
The importance
of a first aid kit in your boat cannot be stressed enough. For those
of us that tune our engines while on the water, this kit is even more of a
necessity. Aside from its exceptional quality, content, and features,
it just plain looks cool, and that alone makes it more attractive than other
run-of-the-mill first aid kits on the market today. It's even
available with custom company or club logos.
At only
$34.95US, it's a real bargain for such a high quality, important item.
There's really no reason not to keep one of these in the shop, trunk of the
car, and the boat. It can be ordered online through
Tuff Tube's website,
or by contacting them at 1-877-376-7638.
