Brucato PCU Conclusion and Impressions

New for this summer is a redesigned case for the PCU, which allows easier access to internal components.

It is a fact that most high performance boaters will modify their engines in the never-ending quest to achieve greater performance.  Maybe it's the challenge of attaining a new stop speed or quarter mile ET.  Maybe you want to be the fastest on your lake.  Or maybe it's just plain fun.  No matter the reason, we all want the best bang for the buck.

At a cost of $1000US for the Brucato Pro Control Unit (not including accessories), it can be one of the most cost-effective modifications available for the Mercury 2.4 and 2.5 EFI V6 platform.  Offering complete and effective control over all fuel delivery parameters, the Brucato Pro Control Unit is modification that will deliver gains in power and fuel economy to the user, without any penalty of reliability.  With all of the fuel management power it has, fine tuning the PCU is within easy reach of any boater.  Further, fine-tuned fuel delivery not only results in more power output, but better fuel economy as well.  We confirmed a notable fuel savings with our PCU when compared to our Mercury ECU.  It is also worth mentioning that the fastest boats on Scream And Fly's forums attained their speeds with the help of a Brucato PCU.

Adding the the usefulness of the PCU's design, a newly-designed case has been introduced for this summer.  The new case sports a design that allows for easier access to the PCU's internal adjustment knobs, as well as embossed knob assignments on the inside of the cover plate.  The new design allows for a cleaner installation when mounting the unit inside the boat, which is recommended for long term reliability.  For those of you that would like to mount the PCU inside the engine, an optional mounting bracket is available.

During both stages of testing, we consistently recorded gains of over 4 mph across the board.  Different propellers, lower unit ratios, weather conditions, and weight configurations all returned the same impressive results.  Additionally, we saw a dramatic increase in acceleration performance as well.

Whether your interests are lake running, drag racing, skiing, or cruising, the Brucato PCU is a tool that will allow you to fine tune your engine for maximum performance and economy.  Future updates will include new software that will allow the user to store and retrieve fuel curves from a personal computer, further extending the usefulness of this fantastic performance upgrade.  After many months testing, the results of our testing speak for themselves.

For the next part of this series, we'll be adding a Brucato Stackable Velocity System (SVS) to our PCU-equipped Mercury, so stay tuned for Part Three of the series!
