What year and hp did merc have their last inline 6 made.
Also when did hp at the prop start vs hp at the crankshaft. I remember the classic 50 went from 50 to 45 and then to 40 for the 4 cylinder.
Was that a engine block change or just a rateing change.
Thanks Dave Roxin.

Just a rating change.

My book says 1988 was the last year of the inline 6 ... and 89 the year for those wonderful idles on 2 but never runs right on 4 cylinder motors ;) Maybe they hired someone from Nash .... which is alledged to have stood for Never All Six Hit

yep, the ole I-6s were superior motors IMO. the last grey stripes were some good lookers too.

What's old is new again. I was looking at the Verado some time back and wondered why after all that about Mercury Marine getting away from the old inline six and going to the new design V6 engines, saying at the time that the new modern V6 engines were so much more everything than those old Inlines, it's back again Supercharged no less. Not saying that it is a bad thing or it's the same exact old inline, It's just what's old is new again. May the old V6 Black Max man retire in peace.
