Can anybody tell me when "short shaft" motors went extinct?

Far as I know they're not. Merc makes the 15" SS for the V6's, although they did take a hietus' for almost 20 years. As far as I know the 78 model 1500XS was the last shortshaft engine until the SS came out in the mid to late 90's. That's not counting the cut down to 15" mid I made in 1976, most likely the first V6 one in the world, since I butchered a brand new engine that was just out. It was a good enough job that it fooled the Merc guys that were here for the boat show.;)

With that kind of bait I am easy to catch. We need to get some pictures of it running. I'll be glad to bring my Triton for a camera boat. Jim

Now all we need is a day with decent weather. I am sick of rain! It was so hot today that even the little panfish wouldn't bite. And to top it all off the Blimp came down in my neighborhood in a T-storm.
