This has been a serious problem the last few months... I've had someone go into my computer several times to clean out and delete cookies or something or another that has somehow gotten in... After that, my computer will work great for a couple of hours and then it will become almost useless because of the pop-ups... It freezes almost every time I'm on it, and I am costantly closing out pop-ups to the tune of one about every 15 seconds or so, and some won't close out at all or allow me to shut my computer down.. I've installed a current virus scan and downloaded a pop up blocker but any improvements are very temporary.... I'm only on two boats sites, S&F being one of them, so I dont know where this super annoyance is coming from... Any suggestions... Thanks, Kevin...

Kevin,

Spyware can enter your machine through many means. If you don't have a good firewall and/or virus protection, it could simply happen via your internet connection. One thing is for sure, it did not come from here.

Download and install Ad-Aware, a free spyware removal tool that is fantastic.

After you run Adaware, run Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html). After you run Spybot, install MS Antispyware (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx)(Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server™ 2003 only). Then install the Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/?promo=mor-tb-en). You should be safe after that:)

I do everything there except Google Toolbar.

I also run McAfee Virus Scan, and Personal Firewall Plus, plus SP2

Internet Explorer is a useless piece of microsoft trash... ditch that and use Firefox as your browser. Windoze XP is bad ass but IE is absolute crap.

To avoid getting this crap to start with:

Don't install ANY screensavers, "toolbars", or anything that asks you to install or "requires you to install to view this page" type-of-things when visiting a website.
