i think one would fit on my 1750 set up. and i truly need one as you know mine is broke, and would put it to good use instead of just piling it somewhere on top of all my other hoardings.

I doubt that they're lefties if they're REALLY early enought to be T3/1750XS. The one with the downdraft is really newer than what was called T3. Even after the new style stickers and 8 bolt housings came along, I saw a guy at Eufaula swithcing from a #6 back to a SSM which would've been an indication of a right rotation powerhead.

It'd be interesting for somebody who knows to say when Merc first started with the counter rotation powerheads on the V6 race motors.

reeds, jets, flywheel, heads???????????? i'm runnin all that stuff now, i'm guessing no port work or odd grinding. octaine i belive killed my last unit, i was doin 97 and should have been 110, 175-180 compression. i could go stock heads n keep all the other improvements and make it live. in my humble opnion. we got a flywheel from a contact at fon du lak after i got hit memorial day 2 yr ago, and it was left, had to change the magnets. are current left hand motors running backward or is it in the lower? fun out

Current left hand units run backwards. There've been some differences of opinion, but basically the #6 and #4 units don't just switch directions because there are gears in the top that aren't straight cut like the older Super Speedmasters. I've always been told that even the old SSM's don't run backwards without re shimming, but since I don't build my own gearcases wouldn't debate the point.

I'm sure the motors on the team boats had changes in port timing, etc, but the ones that went to the privateers, at least the ones way down the totem pole were relatively stock 1750 powerheads with the bolt on parts you mentioned. I really don't believe they were turning em backwards back then.
