I particularly enjoyed seeing some of the shots from Lake Maggiore. Back in the day we would all love to run there because it was such a fast course. Many 5 Mile records were set there. Those shots of the FS class boats show just how goofy that class was. Two guys in the boat, limited engine height dragging that huge gearcase and a high weight limit made them slower but often more unpredictable than the FJ boats.

Is the lake still as shallow as ever? I remember guys going on their heads in that lake and walking back to shore. The course markers were not bouys but stakes driven into the mud bottom. I got too close in turn 1 in 1970 and hit an abandoned marker stake and tore up my best prop a month before Nationals. Olegator took it and when he gave it back a couple of weeks later it was almost 1 mph better than before. I call that a lucky hit since that's the prop I won Nationals with that year.

Its Still Shallow , They Have Had It Closed For Years , Because Of A Bald Eagle Nest??? In The Nature Trail , On The Back Side Of The Lake , The Last Time We Tested The Champ Boats There We Got Run Off Buy All Sorts Of People 5 Years Ago , Saying It Was To Loud , And There Was A 5mph Speed Limit On The Lake ! I Have All The Mid To Early 80s Races On Vhs , Of The 7 Litre Running And Blown K Boats ..... I Think Billy Joule , (joule Yacht Transport) #38 Champ Boat , Was Working With The City On It , He Wants To Have A Champ Boat Race There , For Next Year !

Sam is right - it makes the pages load much quicker for dial-up users.
Parker, the photos are incredible. What do you think about restoring them for the gallery section I mentioned to you? I can do all of that - here's a quick color correction I made on one - the original is on the left.

Greg, Is this a new gallery or for the history section in the present gallery?
If you need any of the stuff from gallery 1 or 2, Parker has the hi-res stuff on a CD I burned when I scanned the slides. They are 5-7meg tifs.
Fish and Parker...The images are great keep them coming. Thanks for taking the time to do this, I know it is a chore.
I have space on my hard drive for all 5000, so keep them coming. :)

Parker , got a pic of the Violator ? Wasn't that a Rabco ? I should have been living down here a lot sooner by the looks of all these pics !!! Boating in the T - Bay area has gotten way too controlled in the last 15 - 20 years , We need a full blown race environment again , it never hurt anybody (except a driver or two ) . Great stuff !!!!! Tom .

Jason, I'm going to be creating a new "Hammer Down" gallery, just for all of these images. And believe me, I have as much space as you'll ever need. The machine I'm working on now has twin 160GB hard disks, and the file server I have here as four 200GB hard disks. :)
I could easily scan and batch process as much as you have - I'll restore the color too.

Havasu from the aft quarter with nice polished stackers merc
Everyone on SnF knows that picture. It is one of the icons of it's day. Merc used it in the over sized 1972 sales brochure. If you watch for the 72 brochure on eBay you can own your own version of it. The cover art is a shark printed in all blue tones.
The full sized poster is much more rare and I'd say you are unlikely to find anyone willing to part with one of them.
Perhaps you could get a 72 sales brochure or find a magazine with the ad and have it photographed and printed poster size.

I had taken that brochure to a local shop, which that photo was the on two pages in the brochure . They melted and airbrushed the pages together, took out all the wording, touched up the boat and and blew it up on poster size photo paper. It cost me alot of money to have done , but way cool. I had several other photos done also.
