I'm cruisin' through the car coral at Daytona this weekend and there sat Gary Mac Norius' Lone Star. He had some pics of it a year or so ago, but the old Evinrude Lark has been replaced with a white Merc 650 that really compliments it. I didn't have a camera, but my buddy did and if the pics turned out I'll post em.

This boat is really unbelievable................... wish I had more garage space.

I know a guy that's got a 1959 Lonestar, I think it's about 19' and has a cuddy. The back has tail fins like a Caddy and the front is square and flat like a aircraft carrier! It's been in pieces in a shed for a decade or more and will probably stay that way, he won't finish it or sell.:( The thing is really cool, and would make a great party boat.

That's not the one I'm talkin' about Clyde. Gary's boat is a little hotrod, probably 15'. It's called a Meteor. I remember seein' some big cruisers too way back when, but never one of these.

Here's a link to a picture Gary posted of his boat a couple of years ago. It looks MUCH better now with the white 4 cyl Merc on it. ('course I may be partial;) )

Skip, if I did I don't remember it. There were so many big block Chevelles there in every color combo imaginable it's hard to remember em all.

I was wondering if there ever were any produced. Merc all blakc in 63 or 64 and the 650 was introduced at that time, using 4 clylinders from the Merc 1000. The 62 850 was still white, my 64 850 is black as was the 63. Perhaps a few early release models were produced in white anyone have the definitive answer here.?
Would be a very rare beast indeed.

Gary painted a 64 model 650 White so it would better compliment the boat. Unfortunately the pics that were taken by my car buddy (who's not a boat guy:eek: ) were all from the front, but in one of em you can see the engine cowl pretty well. I retrieved it from him today and when I get it downsized I'll post it.

I used to see a guy at car shows with a 57 Belair convertible. Factory matador red with original type interior. Behind it he towed an old fiberglass runabout. It may have been a Lone Star but I don't remember. Anyway, on the boat fins, he had the same fin trim from the car. Boat was also matador red with interior to match the car's. It was a cool looking rig and got lots of lookers.

I'd venture to guess you mean this rig. It's owned by Kevin Mueller in Illinois..

Pretty cool..

That looks like the one. How'd you make the Illinois/Arizona connection??

Hi Triple,

I've been hanging around the Fiberglassics web site for years. I have flown up to the Nationals in Illinois a couple of times. Thats how I know Kevin..

A real treat for me was getting to meet and to have the honor of putting together the "Switzer Wing" History web site for Bob Switzer. He still wants to do a similar deal for the Shooting Star.. Maybe this winter.

Here's the best picture we got of Gary's boat. There are two more, but they don't really show any more of it. If I'd realized it I'd have gotten my buddy to take a couple from the sides and rear. You can see the white 650 a little, but I wish the detail was better.
