Seeing these posts remindeds me that I have actual VHS format video/audio footage of Craig Arfon's ill-fated attempt to break the world speed record of 317.60 mph previously set by Ken Warby. It was scheduled to happen on Saturday 7/8/89, but the winds would not lay down and forced the attempt to be pushed back to the next day, 7/9/89. Craig Arfons gave it everything he had including his life. The APBA officials later determined that he was running in excess of 425 mile per hour. When he shut down the after-burner, the change in torque caused the boat to hook and it threw Craig partially through the windshield of the safety capsule before bouncing twice and then disintegrating. Craig was killed instantly. The attempt took place on Lake Jackson in Sebring Florida. Would anybody be interested in putting this video on this website as a tribute to Craig??? Thanks Bob Van Bomel RVB33@aol.com

Many of the people on this board risk their lives every time they go for another 1/2 mph. I think it would be a tribute to Craig Arfon's memory to display this video.

Will anyone ever try to beat this record ? Obviously it is very, very, difficult to do. I think this speaks to the talent in all aspects of Mr. Warby. Some guy has a website and a concept of what his boat would look like but I think he's searching for sponsorship. This record has lasted a long time. Wow Mr. Warby is on this site also. That's way cool. God Bless our Troops.Smitty

Ken Warby will is running a new boat going for a new record, and Russ wicks has also built a boat. Ken will be running in Austraila, and Russ will be running on Banks lake in Washington state. Here is a link to Russ wicks site, and a link to a great artical with an interview with Ken and Russ.

Anyone hear any news about a new record attempt. I can't believe no team is going to try it. I thought a couple teams were close to an attempt. Let's get this cranked up again. Anyone in Cincy know the current record holder that could ask him about it. Best Wishes to all. Smitty

Here's Mr Warby's web site;

There's a cool video on there. I'm suprised there is no corporation willing to get behind someone's effort to break this record. Smitty

IT'S CALLED LIABILITY!!!

NO PUBLIC CORPORATION WITH A PUBLIC IMAGE WILL TAKE THE RISK.....:eek:

Didn't a corporation get behind the land speed record attempt? I guess I'm just naive. Thanks. Smitty.

I hope Ken doesn't mind, but I did a quick color correction on the above photo:
