Great pictures. Parker has tons more of em. That Ron Jones hydro he sent me the picture of with 3 Twister 1's would be a great one to post also.

One that I always liked was the one labeled #20. It'd be nice if Merc would showcase all their race stuff at a boatshow now. It's a very interesting display, even for the non high perf boating public.

I just want to say that these are just a few of what Parker has sent to me. I want to thank Parker for allowing me to scan and share them with everyone. There isn't much on the net like these pics. I wish I could hear all the stories behind all the pics, but like he said there are a few hunderd of them.
These are scanned 35mm slides. It took me a few hours to get these 25 and then format them so they are "board friendly".
Please stay tuned for Volume 2. Coming Soon.

IN PIC 6 THE REASON WHY THE COWLING IS OFF THE TWISTER IS , MY DAD BUILT A NEW RABCO HUSTLER BROUGHT IT UP TO OUR RIVER HOUSE TIRED IT UP AT DUSK WENT OUT TO CHECK ON IT ABOUT 11PM AND IT WAS ON THE BOTTOM ! THOSE BOAT LEAKED REAL BAD IN THE CORNERS ! SO THEY GOT IT UP AND WERE PICKELING THE MOTOR IT LOOKS LIKE !

ALSO IN THE PICS THAT JASON HAS ARE SOME PICTURES OF INSIDE MERCURYS ENGING ROOM IN WISCONSON , WITH TWISTERS EVERYWHERE ON ENGINE STANDS REALLY REALLY COOL !

bro, 1600 views in the racers hangout, a place not everyone comes on a daily basis IMHO is a lot of attention. I hope you will reconsider, I was totally stoked when I got an email form s&f saying you just posted again on this thread.

I know it is a lot of work, if you would rather, I would be happy to scan and post them. I think the pics rock, and you just can't find history like this anywhere.

I recently read an article in an old (1973 or 1974?)Powerboat Mag regarding the Up Up and Away hull (more than one?). Bob Nordskog's shop converted it to an SK tunnel - the pics look like they butchered it pretty good. Is that boat still around?

LakeRacer99
11-17-2004, 05:55 PM
Hey Scott...I have that mag too. Interesting article, states that Nordskog's shop came up with the first S/K class marathon boat. It was that outboard boat that they hacked up and put an I/O in it. If you follow the next few years issues, Bob starts racing it in the marathons.

Oh, Parker, don't get disgruntled...we can do more can't we? C'mon is anyone intersted in seeing more?

Parker, Jason, and Mr Rabe, (Randy i belive) Thank you very much!!!! please understand this is not a forum that gets the traffic as much, these are too cool! are the motors on the magnum counter rotating? or was it even offered then? that cesery racing, is Billy Cesery from jax? i used to cut his parents grass, and the apartment complex's they owned. keep um coming, fun out :D

Mark75H
02-19-2005, 08:35 PM
Counter rotating inline 6's have been available since 1957 in one form or another. From 57 to 61 all were available left and right. In 61 left and right Sportmasters and left and right Speedmasters were available as accessories to put on inline's. From 65 until about 1972 SuperSpeedmasters were available. In 1968, 69 and 70 BP Speedmasters were available in left and right.

The big Magnum has left and right SuperSpeedmasters.

Thank you so much for continuing to post this stuff. Since the traffic is less intense on this forum than on tech and general, I only come here every once in a while to catch up. I am sure a lot of other folks do the same. I bet the number of page views will keep growing for quite a while.

I used to hang out at Mr.Rabes (thats right MR.} shop from 1976 to late1978.I lived with my grand father in st pete so every chance I could I would go over their. Mr. Rabe was like looking at Richard Petty,Mr.Randy Rabe was the MAN I have never met or never will met a man like him.I had a 14' gw invader with a 1965 65hp merc.and pulled it with a 1969 ford van. I thought I had a nice boat until I saw the birth place of Rabco Boats.I will never forget the day I saw the Hustler pic #4,Mr. Rabe told someone that he was going to check out the motor he would be back later.I would always beat him to the boat ramp just to watch one of his boats float. Just like always I would help put the boat in and take it backout of the water. But the day came when God heard my prayers. The man (Mr.Rabe said Hay Kidd won't to go for a ride.) I could not say yes fast enough. He changed the life of a 18 year and made me a fast boat lover for life that day. Thank You MR. Randy Rabe for that day and also every one at Rabco for letting me hang out at the shop.I wish I could remember all of the names at the shop.who every you are that put the magic on my old 65 merc.I would like to thank you again. That gw invader was one bad ass boat when took back to georgia

Hey Parker, Have we ever met ???? read your stuff from time to time and there is something so familiar but i can't quite put my finger on it. I've been around a while and the sell by dates long gone, but i'm from a bygone age of idiots who went boating just for fun. Knew a lot of the old time idiots -----My family and theirs kinda grew up together---now it's grandkids who are letting off steam on the water. Got a feeling your somewhere near South Florida which is not a transcontinental journey from where my son and grandkids now reside.
That number 22 with an eyetie flag on it is something that looks familiar and the Jonesy with twins looks like an ex Art Kennedy type toy. But then again the memory is almost totally shot, you only got to ask Willabee or Oligator to confirm that as fact. jw.

They have nothing to do with boats.
