Mine has pretty good top end right now, with the punched out carbs I can turn my 6&7/8's stainless @ 5900-6000RPM depending on temp, humidity... But my take off sucks, for the time being, I've got a really bad bog about 3000RPM's when I punch it from an idle. It only last for like a second and then it opens up fine, but it cost me at least a boat length.

you can't run them carbs at the races

R/D is that with a 7&3/16 impeller? If so how many RPM's are you turnin? I am going to test a 7&3/16 in mine, if I can turn it at 5500 RPM's without killin' my hole shot that's what I will be runnin' ;)

38!!! haha thats all!!!hahaha ben your wasting your time you CANT SPIN IT!!! wayne worthy said that your motor would be lucky to make 80 hp!! better try 6 7/8 4 blade stainless

dozens of forty+ mph have fallen to the radar gun. I have seen 60mph v6's cry at the sight of a 51-52 mph true speed on radar. I'm turning the 3blade san. stainless. On a 16/52 Intimadator 80/63 gauge.

For your info ... a stock mec dyno' 56hp. At 80 hp that engine will turn the same prop an extra 500rpm's

Blands new dyno sheet shows 80hp @ 6000 & 88 @6500.

As far as i can tell and from a little experience a radar gun is not a good way to get true speed. Most of the time you wil get different readings on the same boat and the same whole of water. That is unless if you have spent the neccesary $ to get a raliable gun. Other than that you really need a fast relay gps. They give the best average, and it is the best average speed that we are after, not the top speed in ideal water.

Mr. Worthy is probably right with guessing 80HP, at least for the time being, but what almost everybody overlooks is the amount of torque an engine makes. The Mercury's will make a little more torque, I've been told, due to the additional cubic inches(59cid). What this means is that a 7&3/16th auger will not cut the top end RPM's on a Mercury as badly as an OMC, at least that's what I've been told.

OMC-6500RPM's with a 6&7/8th Stainless
-5700RPM's with a 7&3/16th Al.

Merc-6300RPM's with a 6&7/8th Stainless
-5800RPM's with a 7&3/16th Al.

that sounds some **** I've heard before. fast relay gps. blah blah blah.

Billy- claimed gps 57........radar-52
Robbie gps 47....radar-47
Trent radar 45
Spider radar 47
Kurt radar 37
Wilcoxin 37
bland 36

all these but one claimed more speed on gps
I went up river last year, took the gun, and the fastest boat I saw was 38-39

I'm trying the 3/16 auger today. watercrest

R/D the one that ran 38-39MPH last summer will do 41-42MPH this summer. I've also seen two or three other boats in the same range, not owned by GW. By the end of the summer I hope to be up there with them, if I'm not I'll buy a pontoon boat.

R/D who had the 38mph last year up river.I know for a fact my boat is doing a little better than that this year. The way I test speed is I mark off a certain footage usally 1320ft. I make 3 hard passes take my average time and do the math.

example
1320Divided by the time=ft. per second
ft. per sec.x60=ft. per min.
ft. per minx60=ft. per hour
div. by 5280=mph

:D this is the most acurate way I can tell if you have a good range finder. The one I use is guaranteed to be right within 9in.

probably one of the only things you know!! that is true, radar is not an accurate way to meter speed! AT ALL!!! a gps is the ONLY WAY, just do it in a lake!!!you all are so full of **** it stinks in here, just look at some old posts in the gen discussion. i'm sure the guys on here have more time on the h2o than any of you pups on the little river

Rude Dude don't get so upset, some people like GPS, some like radar. Isn't there enough room on the little river for both?

Weekender, your speed test is fine so long as you get your boat to top speed before you start timing your 1320ft. run. If you're timing it from a dead stop you will show slower MPH averages because you have to accelerate.

R/D I guess you got rained out, see ya next weekend maybe.;)
