Are you coming out tomorrow night if the weather is good?

Just so happens that we have a Regatta hull in south west Va  We also know nothing about them so please fill me in if you find out any thing. Our Regatta is just an empty hull in need of a total restoration. The guy that had it put a 455 Advance Auto crate motor in it and that just didn't work at all. Think it ran about 50 at 3500 rpm. The poor thing had a home made wake board tower on it made out of galvanized pipe LOL! Remember there will be no trolling motors, bass boat seats and or wake board towers bolted on any classic jet boats :nonod:

Well so far I know very little I know they were built in Bakersfield Ca. mine is ser#251 Ive found about 3 on the web 1 like mine with no windshied,1 out board, now yours is yours a jet mine seems to be pretty origanal My guess is it runs about 60mph one of these times I'll remember the GPS do you have any pics they are kinda cool in the respect that your not going to see another one like it. I see you have a carlson cvx one of my favorite styles the Regatta reminds me of it. It's funny you mention wake board tower my son says Dad we can put a wakeboard tower on it . I said over my dead body LOL LONG LIVE VINTAGE JET BOATS!!!!!!! Randy

Lets have a close up of that flake
This was totally experimental but it turned out pretty good. The epoxy is a 2 part commercial grade garage floor coating. It's a clear primer coat and a color top coat. The guy who hooked me up with the stuff said it will stick to anything that is properly cleaned and prepped. I sanded everything with 60, vacuumed really well then cleaned with acetone before each coat. He told me that this product will flex with the hull and shouldn't crack, we will see LOL! The flake was big time experimental LOL! it's house of colors rainbow flake that is really small, it's non metallic, won't stick to a magnet. I did a few test runs on some scrap plywood and liked how it looked so I just went for it. The flake dispenser is a joke but works. It is a can of compressed air like you would use to clean your computer and a lil glass jar with a metal lid. I poked a small hole in the metal lid of the glass jar and stuck the straw nozzle from the air can in to pressurise it. Made a small brass tube that comes out the the top of the jar lid. A bolt in brass angled valve stem for big trucks would work. This tube was pinched squeezed and bent on until I got a nice uniform shot of flake to spray up and out when pulling the trigger on the air can. I taped the two together with electrical tape for one hand operation. This thing looks funny as hell but works good. I found out on the base coat that this epoxy wants to fire off kind of fast so you need to get it down quick and in the shade. The cool thing is that after you get at down you can move the boat out into the direct sunlight and the stuff will thin out and flow nice. The flake didn't really lay on top but seemed to bed it self down it the epoxy. You can run your hand across it and it's smooth, can't even feel the texture of the flake. I liked my flake dispenser so much I did my place diverter controller and gas tanks
I know this was a long winded answer but I hope it was some help

Randy,
A friend has the Regatta but it's on hold for now, just an empty hull but when they start working on it I will post some pics. Did you know that the USCG has a hull ID database. You can enter the first 3 letters of your hull ID number and it will tell you everything about your boat. Who made it, where it was made, how long the company was in business, the years they were in business, the last known address and phone number. Really cool information, check out

Is your friends similar to mine? The 2 I have found 1 is an outboard looks totally dif 1 looks just like mine without winshield my hull# is R251 the local river patrol even questioned it till I showed him. Kind of wierd its on a placard under the dash Thanks Again I just love these old boats they just have style. Randy

Randy,
The hull my friend has looks just like your boat less the windshield. The Regatta is really unique looking in the rear along the gunnel's. It looks like they flair down and away towards the water line in the rear. It's the only jet I have ever seen that looks this way, very different and very cool!
Isn't it fun to have a rare boat that nobody else has

Man that's a nice CV19SS
My buddy had 2 of them, on kidding. One was running and nearly original and the other was a project boat. Hell, we just had a CV19SS stolen here locally. You know they are desirable, the one that was stolen was just a shell on a rusted out trailer! It had no engine, no pump and no interior. I love the old Carlson's, I have a CVX20 project in the back yard and have my eye on a GT150 project. Don't really want to build another 2 smoke but it's a cool old classic that needs to be saved

Quick Sand was my buddy's project boat and it's still around, it's in storage in NC. Dig the pro stock scoop!

The last one isn't mine it's ghe grand puba of the river it'll outrun 200's 8 out of 10 times. I've got more let me know if yall like em.

I am not sure as stated in the other thread you have,But with a little more pump work this winter I hope to see the boat at 90MPH.The boat is a heavy lay up and rather deep.I had a 1986 mantra(gull wing)with a 502 with blower(747HP on Dyno) high 90's @ 6000RPM with an A impeller. If you want to go fast you would be happier with a hydro, flat bottom or something with a prop, but if you want a nice lake boat that you can go out in and have fun I would go with a gullwing or even a tunnel and you will be in the 80's with around 500HP. They dont really have alot of room in them and that is why I have a deeper V-bottom.So I guess is all in what you want and who will be with you when your there.

Good Luck

Completely restored 78 Sanger Super Jet with a 460 Ford big block,Weiand Tunnel Ram and Rewarder Headers. Custom MitcherT paint job to finish her off. My father owned the boat since the 1980's and I restored it for him 3 years ago. The boat was passed down to me last month when he passed away from a stroke so needless to say the boat means a great deal to me.

Here are some pics on the water and one parked next to my Sunsation 32 Dominator.

Thanks. My father absolutely loved the boat so restoring it for him was a no brainer. He had no idea that I was going to do that for him. He thought I was just gonna get it running and store it for him after it sat for about six years in the driveway under a tarp. When he was battling cancer he didn't have the strength to maintain the boat so it just sat.

Here are a few pics when I started and one finished when I unveiled it to dad for Christmas. The look on his face was priceless when we pulled the cover off and he saw his beloved Sanger in showroom condition. It was one of the only times I ever seen my father cry. He was overjoyed.

On the weekend I did a mock up of motor and components, scoop to be trimmed, positioned and brackets to be made. Velocity stack and carb spacer to be positioned before attaching scoop brackets, height of scoop above intercoolers TBD. Once I have the exhaust fabbed and mounted, I feel they need a little further thought on how to support and heat shields to protect paint at elbows and 3M clear protector on rear spoiler to stop paint damage from excess fuel droplets coming from mufflers.
Any ideas?

I would wrap the elbows or send them out to be hard coated. As for the fuel out the tips, there shouldnt be any as long as the fuel mixture is correct. I dont get any excess or loading up out of my pipes. They are dry stacks as well.
Do you have a way to stop the water flow through the intercoolers at idle?

Hi all, not new to boats, but new to jet boats. I bought a 1978 Glastron Carlson CVX 20 last weekend and it's been in the water at least every other day. Compared to some of the light weight haul a$$ boats I see here, the Carlson seems like a slow heavy tank. I went out yesterday morning by myself and the water was like glass. GPS ---- 57.1, which compared to my 4 cylinder VIP bowrider is moving out.

Question, has anyone ever gotten the "perfomance tuned" impeller from Berkerly? Does it improve holeshot or top end? Not that I'm looking to hit 80 or anything like that, but getting 60-65 would be nice. Right now the 460 has an Edelbrock 750 on it now, but doing the math, a 460 turning 4500 rpm should be happy with about 585 CFM of carb. There's a dude on Craigslist here with a rebuilt marine Holley 650 for $100 I might try out. Plus, that damn Edelbrock will drink 15 gallons in two hours. If the Holley will get it down to 10 gallons in two hours it would be worth it.

I love the Glastron Carslon in that it makes a great family boat for wakeboarding (not from a tower) and pulling tubes. No hot parts for the kids to get burned on, but it's still a really cool jet boat. When the wife gave me the OK to get rid of the VIP for something faster, CVX 20's were all I was looking at.

Mine's got a 20/20 paint job, but still looks cool and tons of thumbs up at the local party cove.

Sounds good. I'll be there. Spring wont get here fast enough. I dont see many jets on the Suwannee anymore. Used to see some in years past. Guess the fad kind of died out? Seems like a jet would be way more fun than a go-fast outboard -like everyone else has. I'm looking for a nice used 8-71 blower set-up for mine if you know where I might find one.

Always liked the look of jet boats with the engine exposed. What do you guys do in salt water? Has to take a ton of time to clean everything or it will corrode.

15* deadrise at the transom. 305hp 5.3L GM LM7 motor, Berkeley Jet Drive, after-market reverse bucket (so it actually goes backwards!) 57mph, so not big numbers, but setup for mid-range pull rather than top end speed.

Currently building another 17' boat with a GM LQ9 (cam'ed and tuned to about 480hp) in front of a Scott 852, and a 15'6" boat with Scott 812 behind a SBC. The 15'6" boat has all the toys on board, VHF, stereo, phone dock, flip-up nav lights, docking lights, trim nozzle and indicator kit, heater with 4 vents, wakeboard tower, ski pole, drivers seat slider, internal and under platform mufflers, rifle drawer, and enough internal lighting to rival 'Vegas! Owner is considering an engine upgrade to an LQ9 in about 18 months.

Depends on how you define skinny. 6" deep water is fine as long as you don't drop off the plane, point and shoot steering response, but ultimately a great compromise between being able to get up a narrow river, being comfortable in bigger water, and capable of being used for towing sports.

Thanks for the info very impressive!! i like the 17ft with the big power that boat would be an awesome all rounder!! Whats the economy with the new big hp motors has it gotten better than the old stuff like 502 with a AT 309? i like the Scott two stage pumps they seem durable and really move the water!! I hear they help economy also? As an example. I good long day on the river how many liters of fuel would you burn not being to Conservative about the driving?

Didn't get any fuel-burn numbers. The hulls are reasonable efficient, so get good lift at lower speeds but shed water well to reduce drag middle and top end. Scott jet will no doubt have some empirical data of their pump v's Hamilton or American Turbine / Berkeley, but fuel economy depends on your right foot. As I tell my customers, "If you want 400hp, then you have to burn 400hp worth of fuel". Guys generally average between 18-24 litres per hour depending on driving style / activity / aggressiveness / or who they are needing to impress.

I like the American Turbine SD309 as it is lighter, lakes up less room inside the boat, the impeller seal face isn't in the debris flow, they offer better top end and can be tuned to suit mid-(speed) range boating / towing that I like to do. Down side is that it really requires an after-market reverse bucket, an all-in-one steering / trim nozzle would be nice (available after-market), and S/S impeller is required if you even look at gravel. The Hamilton HJ212 will rip stumps out of the ground, is seriously quiet, but maxes out at about 60-65mph (unless you throw serious amounts of power at it), while the Scott pumps have great low (speed) end grunt, better mid (speed) range punch, and max out at much better speeds than the 212.

This all depends on your hull and setup of course, but is my opinion of what I have found.

Thankyou great information. around hear the fast boats are running the sd309 with a stove pipe. There are some 212 but mostly on the 18-22ft hunting type riggs. You dont see Conrads around hear ever. ive always loved the look of the two stage Scott that they use in jetsprint. For me an 18fter with a super charged 502 and a scott pump 14-15 deg hull would do the trick! Eagle and Ali-Craft mostly around hear.

Lots of nice boats here, but I gotta say I like the Sprint Boats. Something about a jet with a roll bar :D
